Another London hotel question
Last visit to London,we stayed in Bloomsbury. It was perfect for my main objective, which was to see the British Museum frequently. This time, we are thinking of branching out. We really loved going to a play, and are thinking of staying in Covent Garden. Closer to the museums we missed (Victoria and Albert, mainly), to the Thames for river tours, and of course, to the theaters. Am I thinking correctly? And do you have any ideas of places around the 200-250 pound range? Most of the hotel pictures look so generic and modern. Any homey British establishments? Thank you.

Covent Garden is less than a mile from the British Museum. I like staying there, but if you were happy enough with your Bloomsbury hotel, I'm not entirely sure what a Covent Garden hotel will give you other than a potential increase in price. I struggle to think of any "homey" establishments in Covent Garden that would fit your price point.
If the goal is to be closer to the V&A, you want to stay in Knightsbridge or (even closer) South Kensington. It will be a bit further from the theaters, but it would also put you in a different part of the city. Some of the South Kensington hotels can be a bit cheaper than Covent Garden too.
I'd decide which is more important to be able to walk to, the V&A or the theaters. I much prefer Covent Garden or even Leicester Square or Piccadilly, but my interests run less to museums than yours.

I've always wanted to stay at the Fielding Hotel in Covent Garden and, for 1 reason & another, haven't. Famously, or maybe notoriously, homey:

If you stay IN Covent Garden as I usually do then be prepared to take a taxi or public transport to the V+A.
I can think of one hotel which has Thames views and is within walking distance to many theatres but you won't get it at your stated price point unfortunately.

Okay. I know it's close to Bloomsbury, but we were looking for a new and different setting. Thinking of being closer to theaters this time around and more restaurants. I can be convinced though. That's why I love this board.
carolyn: Thanks, will look.
And Dukey: Tell me your hotel. I'm willing to spend more, if necessary.;-)
travelgourmet: I'm not afraid of no public transportation.
MmePerdu: I DID see that one. Thanks for the link...

Regarding the Fielding, I didn't want to scare you with the word "notoriously", it was a great deal quirkier when I went in for a look some years ago but had, if I recall, an entire makeover. It looks very nice to me in the Telegraph photos. You could also have a look on Trip Advisor for other reviews. I expected it to be more expensive than it is. The location couldn't be better if it's Covent Garden you want, tucked in on quiet lane but steps from the action.

Not sure if this ticks any of your boxes but I just got what I thought was a great rate at "St. James Court, A Taj hotel" for 8 nights in October.
£160 a night for a classic king room with wifi, breakfast, all taxes included. It is non-refundable, however.
Just a thought...
