amsterdam place to stay + itinerary

Hi!
I'm looking for a place to stay in amsterdam for 1 or 2 nights.. maybe a midrange hotel or bnb, around the inner canal area, simple, clean and maybe new if possible and affordable.

I'm also looking to see if my itinerary is doable. we are two people in our early30s who just want a short glimpse of amsterdam before we head on to switzerland.

Friday - arrive at 10am via dutchflyer ferry, chek in at hotel, eat, see some sights/canal boat, go to Keukenhof, back to hotel
Saturday - go to Keukenhof (if we werent able to do so the day before), just eat, walk, sightsee, then on to switzerland in the evening

Thanks in advance!

Take train to Leiden and catch shuttle buses from there to Keukenhof - easiest cheapest way there - shuttles go all the time from Leiden train station.

IME weekends at Keukenhof are much more crowded than week days - locals are more likely to go on a weekend - I'd go to the Keukenhof as soon as you check in - then you can take a canal boat tour after dark when to me it is nicer even due to the illuminated bridges, etc. - Kind of magical at night.

Good inexpensive 3 star hotel in Amsterdam, RHO Hotel. On the edge of Dam Square,1/2 mile from central train station, friendly helpfull staff, free wifi and good free breakfast.

Thanks! I hope RHO Hotel isn't fully booked yet!

Do you think it's worth going to Keukenhof in early May?

Keukenhof is always the same when open - most of the flowers and plants are in hothouses - showcasing the wares of Holland's flower growers - save for some outside flowers the bulk of its IME was inside hothouses. Well worth a visit anytime IMO.

Check out the Hotel Aalders, near the museums. We stayed there a few years ago and loved it.

We are staying at The Hotel The Exchange (yes, odd name) very soon. The reviews are good, and you can choose your room category, so can go expensive or not.
