Amsterdam hotel choices

My husband and I will be in spending our last 2 nights of 10 days in Europe in Amsterdam on Sept.4-6. I have found accomodations to be available at three hotels and I'm trying to decide which to stay at with the following price quotes from them. Canal House (double for Euro 150, 170 or 190), Hotel Fita (double deluxe at Euro 150)or Hotel New Amsterdam (Euro 100). All the prices are okay except for the 190. I just want a nice experience and atmosphere. Any comments on which to choose?

I read a post recently (I think it was Tripadvisor) that said Hotel Fita did not put them in the deluxe room they requested, yet the rate was the same.

I would go for the Hotel New Amsterdam - it seems very nice for the price and there are consumer photos posted on Tripadvisor, along with mostly positive comments. It's close enough to the train station but outside the 'craziness' of the immediate area around Centraal.

For me, in Amsterdam, I would pick by location. I really liked the canal rings, Leidseplein, and around Vondelpark. I did not much care for the central area of the city around the Dam, train station, etc.

I don't know about those, but I loved Hotel Estherea -- beautifully renovated, reasonably priced, and in a great location. You can check it out at www.hotels.nl/amsterdam/estherea/

We've stayed at the Canal House a couple of times and have loved it.

We stayed in the Hotel Fita in April. Accommodations were fine. 125E per day included a wonderful breakfast. If you are an art lover it is steps from the Van Gogh Musum, the Rijksmuseum. Amsterdam's concert hall
Concertbegouw is blocks away. The tram is right nearby and you can get to the Centraal RR station in ten minutes.

LOL, Powell. The tram gets you to the station in about ten minutes except on a Saturday morning when there was construction on the line near the Fita, and we detoured all over the city (it seemed) closely checking our watches fearing we'd miss our train to Berlin. We didn't thank goodness, but next time we'll check ahead!

We have stayed at the Canal House twice - unfamiliar with the other two. Very pleased with Canal House - staff is very helpful and location is good - you can walk there from train station and in a great neighborhood. Near alot of canalside cafes that are great for people watching. Its a quiet neighborhhod but close enough to busier parts of town if that is what you want.

Thanks for the comments. Think I will choose the Hotel New Amsterdam and use the money we save on room cost for eating, drinking and sightseeing.

We have stayed in the Fita about 2 years ago and were NOT pleased at all. Cannot understand all the glowing reports on trip advisor (the reason we chose it), because our experience was more like those that wrote how bad it was, including terrible breakfasts, OK rooms but nothing more, terribly rude and stern owner (who made us feel like criminals when we called him to fix a small problem in the bathroom!! truly!!!), and overall just a very bad experience !!

Assume you have checked out your choice at both www.tripadvisor.com and www.channels.nl
