AMSTERDAM MUSEUM TICKETS
We are Pensioners going to Amsterdam in three weeks to visit the museums. Can aynyone tell me if there any consessionary reductions for over 65+ on the Museum entries. If not what would be the cheapest and best way of buying the tickets, Maybe the I Amsterdam card of the Holland Pass. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you.

There are no concessionary reductions for non Dutch 65+ (any more than the US scheme covers non US citizens!) at the major museums.
How long are you staying? Are you planning on using public transport a lot?
Your could consider the Museumjaarkaart, (€39.95 pp valid for a year)which you an buy at a museum, plus a public transport pass, or the Iamsterdam card, which includes public transport and some other discounts.
The IAmsterdam card is not valid for the Anne Frankhuis whereas the mjk is. You could always buy tickets online for Anne Frankhuis however.
The Holland Pass is the least attractive option imho.

It used to be that US citizens could not get the reductions because of age becuse US had not signed some international reciprical agreement but EU citizens, at least in France and Italy, could get the discounts so I am too surprised Holland don't honor them. They do say the Dutch are really Dutch!

here is my post on the pass we bought for our family in the spring. we actually thought the holland pass was the best for us when we compared the options. moving to the front of the line was the biggest benefit. check out the places you actually want to go and see if they are all covered.
book anne frank house online- we enjoyed the ticket that included the extra 1/2 hour education component at the start- really enhanced the visit.
thanks to all of you who helped plan my recent trip to amsterdam and brugge with my family. i wanted to recommend the holland pass for amsterdam touring- it does not get much mention on this site. we purchased ours on arrival at schipol at the tourist office (they have the 5-ticket pass only there- if you want the 2 or 7 then need to go to the GWK office). no need to book ahead on the internet at all, and really no reason to do so as the pass has to be picked up on arrival regardless of weather pre ordered or not.) the 5 ticket pass was perfect for us (3 day stay). Yes, it does allow you to save money, but more importantly you skip lines- right to the front of Van Gogh museum, Rijk. museum etc. without pre booking times. the pass works by a series of coloured tickets. each colour (red, purple, green) can be used at specific sites/attractions, and the card it comes with gives a discount elsewhere (ie, brewery tour, excursions etc.) the 5 pass comes with 2 "red" tickets - so you can choose 2 from a list of several of the big/expensive attractions (we did Rijk. museum and van gogh). then there are 2 "purple" tickets. again there is a choice of several places, and you choose 2 (we did a canal ride for example with this). there is a green ticket as well (we used i believe for the portugese synagogue)
the lines at several attractions were huge- this pass was a great tool to avoid lines and

Read what I said Pal - the MJK - museum card is valid, the IAmsterdam card isn't.>
just curious as to why it isn't on the list I referenced above? Is it a brand new participating museum in the card?

Ah this site lists 34 museums in Amsterdam covered by the Museum Pass - mjk - and it does include the Ann Frank House - so the one I referenced before is slightly older and listed only 32 museums - thus two have been added and hetismij is indeed right is saying Ann Frank House is included - but only recently it seems - well that makes the Museum Card even a much better deal than before as the Ann Frank House IMO is a must sight for anyone in Amsterdam and along with just a few other museum entries pay for the year-long pass, which is also good all over Holland. A great great deal that is now much better even than before with the addition of the Ann Frank House.
