Air France my carrier of choice!

I wanted to post a positive experience with Air France.

I flew Northwest from Rockford to Paris in June. The experience with Northwest would earn the phrase northworst anyday. Anyway because of alot of delays and mechanical problems, my nonstop flight from Detroit to Paris, ended up Detroit to Gatwick, connecting flight at heathrow to Paris.

The leg of the trip I want to commend was Heathrow to Paris on Air France. I had no luggage because it was delayed in Detroit on a plane that never left for Paris on a Northworst flight.

To make a long story shorter, I did not receive my luggage until my last day in Paris. Airline interline aggreement states whatever flight was your last flight is responsible for your delayed luggage.
So even though Air France really was an innocent bystander in this whole debacle on Northwest they were responsible for my compensation. I just received a check from Air France for 400.00. I was very impressed, they treated me very well in the correspondence. It was very fair and generous reimbursement. So anyway just a positive praise for Air France. They were just great! Patti

Air France has pretty good customer service. My sister got bumped off the non-stop flight back to Boston from Paris and they promised her a seat on the flight the next day. They gave her an extra night in Paris and a 750 euro voucher to be used on Air France.

well I think you should look on the light side. You now have a travel legend you can tell your grand children LOL.

You need a few of those under your belt before the global travel club will let you in.

I like Air France too. However, they have lost my luggage twice in the last year and I know from personal experience that they have developed excellent services to deal with the situation. They have their own delivery service to deliver your (usually delayed) luggage to wherever you are staying. Always tag your luggage with your itinerary including dates, places and phone numbers and you will get it.

I would, of course, be happier if they would put my luggage on the plane with me, but barring that, it's nice to know it will arrive eventually. Three days has been the max.

Glad your trip worked out well.

Another vote for AF even though they caused some frustrations, like kept changing gates. I am talking about gates that are miles apart, just exaggerating.
About 3 years ago, I went to spend one week in Bretagne in August. We went back and forth to 3 different gates before they decided on the one. This was the sign of the upcoming trouble. Then we finally boarded the aircraft. We sat on the tarmac for at least 2-3 hours. Since I was in the back, I could not see what was going on in the business and first classes. They served us meals while still on the tarmac. After the meals, they told us that they were having mechanical problems and for us to deplane and go to the desks to book the next flights out. As we filed out through the front sections, we saw that they were all gone and left Paris already. AF took care of them first. We were all assigned to hotels nearby. I was alone and my fate had it that I was always in the wrong line anywhere: grocry stores, department stores, you name it. I was part of the last group that was taken care of. I was assigned to the Radisson with 2 meal vouchers and prepaid phone card to call home for certain amount of minutes. It was enough to call USA. The dinner voucher included a half bottle of wine.
As we gathered back at the airport the next day, I listened to some bad tales from the people that got the hotels before me. I found out that they assigned hotels from bottom and worked their way up the list. Some of the passengers stayed in hotel without AC.
I still prefer AF over our US carriers if going to France. Don't let me start with the tale about United in O'Hare in 2003. If I go to Asia I use either Singapore or Korean airlines.

I like Air France. I think I have enough FF miles to fly to Italy next year. No problems with them at all. In fact, on the way home on one trip, we got bumped up to business class!! No reason stated. We loved it!

"Air France my carrier of choice!"

Also known as Air Chance because of their safety record ?

You can read about it here : http://www.airsafe.com/events/airlines/afa.htm

In fact, they seem to be a little better these days !

Gee, their last incident was what, 10 years ago? Amazingly, they haven't had to file for bankruptcy protection.

Say what you want but it beats swimming to Europe.

I fly AF because of FF miles through AMEX, ATL-CDG, first class. The beds are great, the food sucks, and the FLT. attendants act like your inconveniencing them if you need a bottle of water or anything else. Then you get to take that crappy bus ride around the airport crammed in with a hundred people. IF there was another way, i would use it.

I love the charm and linguistic command of Air France personnel.

I was waiting for a flight in one of the CDG "satellites." An Air France ground person strikes a pose at a desk, tosses her hair, and announces over the PA in English: "The flight to London will be leaving from Gate J." All the English speakers obediently head to Gate J.

Madame tosses her hair again and absolutely hisses: "The flight to London will be leaving from Gate J as in 'George'!"

Not mine!!! Though I am a FB member I think KLM is much better in everything. I am flying AF next month but because I had no other choice and because I am travelling in business. Travelling in AF Tempo ( economy)long haul is the worst airline experience I ever had. Bad food, bad service, the most uncorfotable seats, unfriendly staff.
But that's me, we can't all like the same things !!
