A week in Verona - day trip suggestions?

3 couples will be staying just outside of Verona the last week in April this year. We have only been to Verona once for a short lunch on our way to Venice, so we hope to really explore this city while we are there.

What are recommendations to see while we are there - restaurants, etc and what day trips would you recommend? We have done Venice, so don't want to do that. We love wine and would like to visit some wineries in the Valpolicella region. Does anyone have any recommendations? We will have a car so can get around on our own, but would also consider a wine tour if it's highly recommended.

Thank you!

Patty

Definitely Padua, or Padova. Go see the Scrovegni chapels, make a reservation. I wished I had made consecutive reservations, as 15 minutes for me was not enough.

Lots more to see there too.

Lake Garda is just to the east- drive around it or park the car and takes boats to the several interesting things around the lake, especially the Roman ruins at Sirmione - the Bellagio of Lake Garda. Can drive there.

Trento, beautiful castle, old town, great restaurants, lovely surrounding hills.

I agree--take the train to Trento, about a hour. Have a lunch reservation at the Antica Trattoria due Mori. Walk around town, take the cable car ride.

Unless they have moved it, Pal, I'm going to be your best buddy and tell you that Lake Garda is not "just to the east" of Verona.

Thanks for the suggestions. I hadn't thought of Trento, and I think we have some family there, so that might be a really great idea!

I am also interested in Padua and Vicenza. We will be coming from a week at Lake Como, but we might try to see Garda as well.

Thank you!
