A Fodor folly
Why is it that when you go to the thread on a specific country and then post a message there, you are not taken back to that thread but returned immediately to the Europe thread?? It is most annoying! Just because you have posted a reply doesn't mean you are done with the thread itself.
Is there a way around this or is it something we have to put up with?

There are no individual country boards. The list of countries on the pull-down menu is to assist people searching for threads on that country. They're for searching only; they don't create mini-forums for those countries alone.

Gardyloo's right, there isn't really any country forums, just search result. But it would be nice if your search results remained, rather than reloading back to the default view on the left.
One idea- try doing a right-click on a thread, then "Open in new window". That way any posting you do from there on would be in the new window, while leaving your search results in the original window.

Hi Sheila,
You know, you can even save yourself the trouble of creating a test thread.
While you're logged in, just look up at the top of your screen for the little guy who's flying past... (what is that blue disk anyway?). Ahem, anyway...
Click your name in the little line that says:

Does the same thing!

This is also a problem on the US board. 50 states listed, one US category. Fodors' webmaster needs to make it clear that your post will appear on the entire subcontinent of Europe. I can not figure out why they can not make this clear.
How about a phrase such as "Your question will appear on the entire Europe board not just the country you selected for posting. So please specify the country in your question".
Hello Fodors. Wake up!!!!

The heading for the country (or state) list says, "Pick one or more search topics". Seems clear to me that you're picking a keyword, not a country (or state)-specific board.
The additional complication is that if you do use this keword feature for searching, you won't pull up any posts for which the OP didn't bother to designate a country.

An equally bothersome part of that country selection iw when the user picks every country because the post doesn't apply to any country, or because they want more exposure.
I was trying to do research on Romania and I was wading through 3 times as many unrelated posts on cameras, sleep aids and hotels in Athens or Barcelona than were actually on topic.
