6 MONTHS IN AUSTRIA-LUCKY GIRL!
Hello
I hope that the fodorites will again share their knowledge and experiences...
Daughter number 2 is off on a six month university exchange from Sydney to Vienna University.
University apartment is booked - 300 euro a month would you believe for a very modern and spacious three bedroom apartment to be shared with two other students !
While obviously she will be immersed in her university life and friends, I thought it might be useful to point her to interesting places in Vienna and Austria.
She is a history and international relations major, enjoys food, vintage stuff, theatre and literature as well as music (jazz and alternative).
We did visit Vienna about four years ago so she has been exposed to the major sights such as the Schonburg Palace, Stepan platz (sp)and whatever restaurant it is that serves massive schnitzels...
Any suggestions for activities, clubs, eats, sightseeing etc in Vienna and environs and beyond. She is on a student budget with some extra for an occasional splurge.

We really enjoyed Babettes in Vienna. It is a low key cookbook shop with a small lunch counter in the back. The owner/chef prepares dishes in the open kitchen from a limited menu. It was delicious and a unique experience. We were the only non-locals there when we ate.
We walked past a university to get there from the u-bahn - not sure if it is the same one your daughter will be attending. It isn't far from the Naschmarkt, which we also enjoyed walking through and sampling the foods.
Babettes has a website, I think it is www.babettes.at
