4 days in Rome-go to Pompeii?

I have 4 full days in Rome, I would LOVE to go to Pompeii, but since my time is so limited should I save it for another trip? Ever since seeing the movie "Last days of Pompeii" as a kid, I've wanted to go.

I'd say you should go. If it's a sight that really captures your interest, why not?

Hi
does one of the four full days include arrival from an overseas flight?
If so, I find that to be a less than fully-productive day.
Even with four full days, you'll probably find that Rome has enough things to see to fill 4 weeks.
What are the chances of your going back anytime soon?
If it will be quite a while, then fulfill your dream and take a day and go to Pompeii.
If you may get back there, then save it for next time.
If you're unsure, wait until you get there, and spend a couple of days first.
If for the third day you feel like you still want to go to Pompeii, you could decide and just go.

On my first trip to Rome I stayed five nights, so I also had four full days. Pompeii had captured my imagination as a child, and I was excited to think that it was a reachable destination for a day trip. I didn't know what my college aged daughter would think, but she decided she wanted to go, and we were both really glad we did.

We took the Enjoy Rome shuttle, which was a relaxing way to get there and back with no superfluous stops, and we were back in Rome in time for dinner.

If you've always wanted to go, I say go.

This Times article deals with an account of a day trip to Pompeii from Rome. It will inspire you to do so:

I used it for planning purposes -- but I was coming from the Amalfi. (That was a busy day....)

The amphitheatre exit, by the way, is pretty far from the train station, I found. But otherwise the article is worth a read.

while there is more than enough to keep you busy in rome, if you have "always wanted to go there since I was a kid" then definitely do it!!
You will certainly be closer compared to wherever you are coming from
and I really like to go with the philosophy that one never knows what the morrow bring, so why wait....

Have FUN!!!!!!!
