Rome/Pompei/Ostia

Will be in Rome in October. Considering a day trip to Pompei, but some say that Ostia is just as interesting, and a much less tiring day trip. Would appreciate any input.

Ostia is a more realistic day trip from Rome. Pompeii would be a more realistic day trip from Naples.

We've been to both and I don't think Ostia is equal to Pompeii, but it certainly is worth a visit and, as noted in the previous post, a much more realistic day trip from Rome.

I have not been to Ostia Antica, but I have gone to Pompeii twice as a day trip from Rome and loved it. The stories I read about Pompeii as a child have fascinated me all my life, so it was worth it to me to spend a couple of hours each way to get there. I would like to see Ostia if I go to Rome again, but I would not have wanted to miss out on Pompeii.

We did a day trip to Pompeii from Rome. Long day - but quite do-able.
