100 passengers stranded 1 week. Easyjet cancels flight to Madrid

Casablanca-Madrid.

This certainly should get our attention and make us reconsider ever taking a low-cost flight that does not operate with better frequency .. one thing is to have to wait several hours or til the next day for a flight out.. but .. til next WEEK?

well, I hope Easyjet DOES reimburse all the passengers ( those who had the extra cash/credit to be able to do something about it themselves) for their expenses. The article I read did not give the important details of Easyjet offering to pay daily amounts, etc. Seems, according to the article, several passengers says that this was not offered at the time.

However, it still goes to say, that this is a possibility with these companies.. that they will strand you and not make other arrangements for you.. til maybe next week.Of course, that was probably the" next available flight out"!

This is too bad, especially because Easyjet is one of the more sane low cost carriers with far better service than Ryan Air. I fly them about twice a month and I would say 85% of the time things are fine. It's important to know your rights as a passenger and also to make sure you have all the details of your personal travel insurance from your bank or credit card companies to hand whilst traveling.

It's a known risk with low cost carriers. I took over a hundred flights between Ryanair and Easyjet. Only once I was stranded by Ryanair when they cancelled a flight. They offered me to either refund my ticket, or to take a flight six days later. Luckily I could wait so it was only a minor nuisance, but it can happen.

Being a European airline they must compensate the passengers, but I expect they will put up a flight.

It is one reason I don't fly cheap airlines.

The compensation is due not because they are a European airline but the flight originates or leaves European airspace.
But maybe they will not get compensation, just like the KLM passengers after the ash cloud affair.

It will be interesting to see if any of the expensive flights home or hotels/meals are actually fully refunded.

One thing about low cost airlines is that they're LOW COST. No way would I sit in an airport for a week waiting for another flight. I'd buy another flight home and if necessary risk losing that £50 flight. Life is too short.

Easyjet is usully pretty good, and way better than Ryanair. With Easyjet, of you arrive early for your flight, and there's an earlier one for the same place with seats available, they put you on it for nothing.
TBH I hardly think of them as a budget airline, especially when seeing the queues of business people waiting for the first flight to London in the morning, all flying down for meetings.

I like easyjet, too, and use them. I had just never really thought about the repercussions of a flight cancellation on a route that after certain dates only functions weekly/ bi-weekly.

I'll keep using them and others, but will certainly research my worst case scenario options a bit more than I probably would have.

The point is that if your flight is cancelled, they will put you on the earliest available flight, and this could be several days after. They will not bring in an extra airplane. That's when you know it's a budget airline.
