Specialty Restaurant - Celebrity Century
I have cruised on the Century twice and now have booked cruises in November and January. I note that there is a "specialty restaurant" advertised. Can anyone inform me of exactly what the "specialty restaurant" is and if you pay extra for this seating?
Your response would be very much appreciated.

Senior: There is no specialty restaurant on the Century. What you may be thinking about is the alternative dining where you can have dinner, buffet style. You have to make reservations for this, and I think the charge is $2 per person. I never have done this but have heard that the dining is more casual.
What stevep was talking about is on the Millennium class ships and the cost is $25 per person, which is a fabulous dining experience, more so than in the main dining room.

We did the Millenium alternative dining a few years ago. It was nice, they fixed everything at your table. I don't remember the cost, but it wasn't $25. I'm think about $12 or so. Maybe they went up in price.
They only served 2 courses, and a glass of wine was about $16.00 -- it was a little pricy, but it was very good.

Let's clear this up so that there is no confusion. I will be taking my 10th cruise with Celebrity in a couple of weeks and have been on the Century and the Summit (a Millennium class ship.
- - The Millennium class ships have alternative dining AND specialty dining. The alternative dining is the casual dining. You do have to make reservations for it and it doesn't cost that much. The specialty restaurant is what the name implies. It costs $25 per person (at least that was the price on the Summit a year ago) and it is a wonderful experience - - five or six courses (not 2).
- - The Century ONLY has alternative dining. NO specialy restaurant.
Hope this clears up the confusion.

Mary, You must be confused???
I can't speak for the Summit. Maybe they charged you $25 and served a 5 course meal.
I was speaking about the Millennium, and it only cost about $12.00 each. They only served 2 courses which they prepared table side. OK, if you want to count dessert & cheese, they served 4 courses.
This was like the 2nd or 3rd cruise since the Millennium went into service.
I hope this clears up any confusion, and I am terribly sorry they raised their prices since then and charged you $25.00 per person.

The Summit was charging $25 per person two weeks ago for the Normandie, its gourmet restaurant. We were going to try it but the food was very good at the regular restaurant. The menu looked good but not worth an extra $50 to us. Also, dining at the Normandie was supposed to take 2.5 to 3 hours, which is too long in my opinion. Finally, we were enjoying our conversations just fine with our regular tablemates and didn't feel the need to dine solo.

The food on Celebrity is pretty much top-notch. I can't imagine spending an additional $50.00 for a dinner (per couple) in the specialty restaurant. I know it wasn't anywhere close to that cost when Millennium first started out, but I guess once they felt people will pay it, they raised the prices.

Just returned from cruise to Alaska on Galaxy. Two restaurants available for dinner..formal dining and alternative casual dining ($2 service charge). Reservations are necessary for alternative casual dining in the evening. There are only 2 menus in casual dining..alternating between them, with realtively limited choices for each course.
