Pay to depart late on departure day.

I saw today that Celebrity will allow passengers to pay to stay on board several hours on debarkation day. It costs $59 a person, and allows one to stay in the lounges, buy lunch and drinks, and then depart in the afternoon. I would do this in a minute to avoid, e.g. sitting three hours in the Athens airport waiting for bag drop to open up, or other long and uncomfortable waits for flights or hotel rooms to become available. I think it would be great if other cruise lines did this, allowing for issues of space and security.

Umm... why not to take the city tour with the airport drop-off? Are they offered on Celebrity?

For $59, you can stay in the cabin 1 hour longer (till 9 a.m.), and up to 90 minutes before the ship's next sailing time. I don't find it particular good value, except that the food is free.

Essentially, you pay not to be rushed to get off the ship, get free food for the afternoon, and hopefully, no line up at the custom.

I am not sure if I will take advantage of this offering. I can usually find better things to do, and as Dayenu suggested, a city tour or something.

I can see that it could be popular for the Caribbean cruises where there maybe less alternatives but to sit at an airport if you are heading home the same day.

I can think of MANY better things to do

in wonderful Athens with my $59 than be

Chareged A LOT a for couple more hours

on a ship I am usually tired of.

Check with your carrier for airport lounge cupons

discounts far cheaper better place to hang better food drinks

usually and I am AT the airport for my flight so NO WORRIES.

They closed ATH yeaterday due to Greek bankruptcy so anything

is possible over there right now... insuremytrip.com always

wise...

if you are staying on at a hotel in port of disembarkation then you can drop your bags at the hotel and they will store them until your room is ready.
