Need some advice about the QM2.
My family would like to plan a sailing on the QM2 for June 2006.
We have been working with a very nice TA but have run into a problem.
We have enough people interested with friends and family to get a group rate. We also were hoping to snag an early booking bonus.
This year the airfare return was included in the price of the sailing. Sail New York to Southampton and return one way air.
Next year they are not offering the airfare and it is very expensive. In fact, the airfare is more for the children then the cost of the cruise.
I have only ever taken one cruise in my life before to Alaska and really do not know if there is a way we can get a less expensive airfare one way from Europe.
Can anyone help?

At the moment Aer Lingus (Irish) seems to offer the lowest one-way fares over the water, but there are so many other carriers with so many seats that who knows what the case will be next year.
You can't see prices for tickets or make bookings farther out than 330 days as a rule, so if your trip is in June, start checking out fares later this month or early next.
In all cases it's advisable to look for low cost flights to connect to cheaper destinations, like London, to keep transatlantic costs under control.

Thanks Gardyloo. I also hated to commit to this cruise because Cunard was not quoting an exact price for airfare.
After we book they could come back even higher and then we really would be stuck.
I will check airfare later.

Sher-
it is also possible that Cunard WILL offer free air back from Southampton next year...for them to tell you it is not being done over a year in advance is sometimes not true..
I do know that Cunard ALWAYS offers free return air on QE2 all the time...
You can also book one way fares from England on a consolidator--but those fares are only out 6 mos prior to travel and they are the cheapest one way airfares..

Thanks Andy. I think we are going to wait.
We may not get the choice of the exact cabins we want, but the price has to be better.
A standard outside for my brother and wife, their two small children would be about $8600. The TA tells me we have to have at least that level for four people, even though two are children.
I will keep my fingers crossed and wait.
