Need Advice: Will Norwegian Allow Me to Stay Overnight in Rome and Meet the Ship at the Next Port?

Hi

I'm usually on the Europe board, so I'd first just like to say hello to everyone here.

I emailed Norwegian with this question, but haven't heard back from them yet. Thought I'd give you guys a try.

I may be taking a 7 day Western Mediterannean cruise. I'm not a big cruiser, the last one I was on was probably 14 years ago, so I don't know how things work.

This is the schedule for Rome and Florence:
Thu.
Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy
7:00am
7:00pm

Fri.
Florence/pisa (Livorno), Italy
7:00am
7:00pm

I would like more time in Rome than this, and was wondering if I could get off the ship at Civitevecchia, spend the night in Rome and catch up with the ship before it leaves Livorno the next evening. Do they allow this? Do they check to make sure everyone is on board before sailing to the next port?

Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Johanna

I don't know if they allow it, but they do check to make sure everyone is on board before sailing. We've often heard people paged.

They don't wait for people who are late from their excursions. They expect them to find their own transportation to the next port. That being said, even if you aren't officially "allowed", why not go ahead and do it anyway? You could always say you missed the sailaway in Rome...

Well, I finally heard back from Norwegian, and here was their answer:

Good morning Johanna,
Getting off the ship and catching up with it at another port is not allowed. All of our cruises must be completed as scheduled.

Regards,
NCL Internet Support

But lol930, you have a point. I mean, I'm sure that there is always someone who is late getting back to the ship and misses it. What do they do in that case? Surely they have to let them back on at the next port, all of their stuff would still be in their cabin.

Johanna--

That would be a good letter to hold onto. It sounds like it guarantees they will never leave anyone behind. That is good to know about NCL. I know of other cruise lines that WILL leave late passengers behind.

So sorry about your plans though!

"They" always say it's your responsibility to be back on the ship before it sails.. and that it would be y our responsibility to catch the ship at the next port" They are saying that you have to complete the cruise.. you would be, but staying over...Then again, they check your card when you leave the ship and when you get back on.... Its very tempting, I know... On our last cruise 25 people were on a train that had broken down on the way from Rome back to our ship... The Captain held the ship for more than two hours.
