Need a recomendation for a W Caribbean line

I have done my homework and read a bunch of reviews of the cruise ships on: Mytravelco, cruise.com,epinions,expedia,travelocity, and Fodors. I still cannot figure out which cruise line is for us. We are a married couple in our mid 20's that will be cruising at the end on June. We also will be with another couple in the same age group. I thougt I had a winner in RCCL Voyeger of the Seas but epinions had changed my mind. Can anyone offer any advice? Thank you!

I say "Voyager of the Seas". Don't ignore this ship.

I sailed her sister ship (Explorer) in December and loved it!

It is great for those in your age group - I am 30 and really enjoyed it.

I also like "Grand Princess" but it is quieter and "classier" then Voyager.

Teresa

Could I ask what ship did you prefer better. Grand Princess or Royal Caribbean- Voyager. We were debating between the two ship, which way to go?
Please advise?
I hear Voyager is a really fun ship.

There you go Theresa. Describe both ships. That should take you a few hours.

Paul

Paul, you are an ass. Do people describe their entire vacation on this board? No, just the main points. If they did it would take hours. So why is it not possible to descripe the ships pros and cons in a few sentences?

My recommendation would be the SUNBIRD. It's not too big so there are very few line-ups for anything and it's small enough so that it can actually get to port. It's also just big enough so you don't feel the sea. No line-ups to get-off the boat or waiting for a shuttle. The ports of call in the western Carribean are pretty good too. The ratio of crew to passenger is pretty high, they are always cleaning something. The food and the people are fantastic! I'd go back for the bread alone! We are in our early 30's and found some cool people to hang out with. The older folk were mostly from the UK, they were really fun, actually. The DJ in the night club was amazing. I'd go back again!

Hi Jesse,

Do not listen to all the negative reviews about the Voyager. It is a fabulous experience. Passengers who complain about a ship go on the ship expecting to complain.

And for the nice fellow that called me an ass ..... if you had sailed both the Grand and the Explorer you would know there are "hundreds" of main points for each of these massive ships and it would take hours to type all the main points.

Paul

On Explorer -

I thought she was a very well laid out ship. She is huge but doesn't seem it. You never get lost and they have great "markers" everywhere explaining where you are in comparison to where you want to go.

Explorer has far more activities - rock climbing, ice skating, ice skating shows (fabulous), larger putt putt golf, roller blading, etc. . .

I also thought the entertainment was "better".. We had Yakof Smirnoff performing - someone I have heard off. THeir entertainment was more varied and applied to many different age groups.

Explorer also had more younger people and more families.

Solarium was beautiful - and for adults only.

Dining room is just gorgeous on Explorer.

-------------------------

On Grand - I believe the food was better in the dining room and the buffet is open 24 hours a day.

Food was fine on Explorer, but I liked the Grand food better.

Pools on Grand are fresh water (verses salt water) and are open 24 hours a day.

I think Grand is not laid out as well but that is Ok.

I am 31 years old and while I don't care what the other ages are on Princess - I have to state that people are older on Princess. Not a big deal to me but you will find more young couples on RCCL.

--------------------

Service is great on both. We had no problems and our waiters/room stewards exceeded our expectations on both.

-----------------------

I like Princess Cays over Labadee. It is a less rocky beach. I don't like Ocho Rios so I tend to lean towards Grand because of that but I would definitley sail Voyager - her sister was a great ship!

-------------------

So to make a long story short since I am leaving this weekend for the Grand again is that I loved both ships and would sail both again in a heart beat. There are certain things I liked about each a little better but they weigh each other out.

Sorry I can't go into more detail. Still need to pack for this weekend.

Good news is that you can't go wrong with either!

Done both the Grand and Voyager and my vote would be Voyager. Both are top ten but the Promonade and the activities on the Voyager make the difference. I have not read any post that netted out negative about either the Explorer or the Voyager (or, I guess the Adventure, now too) - the ship, not necessarily the itinerary.

Jesse-my husband and I sailed the voyager last summer and loved it (we are also in our mid 20s)-it was our first cruise and we are now spoiled. its a great cruise to go on at least once to get the experience. We are going on the celebrity galaxy this summer- we were looking for something a bit more refined and better food than RCCL and we didnt want to get on a plane-so its perfect-i hope!

Have you looked into Norwegian Cruise Line's the Norwegian Sun? It is a brand new ship and does Western Caribbean year-round now.

I travel Eastern Caribbean on it's sister ship the Norwegian Sky in January and LOVED every minute of it.
I got great deal on an outside cabin with balcony and loved it. The food was very nice and plentiful.

I really cannot think of any negivate aspects of my cruise.

Good Luck!

Has anybody mentioned "CARNIVAL"? I'd think that for a twenty-something-year-old, it would be great...

(As a fun-loving 41 year old, I was crazy about my first cruise last month!)

Hi Jesse,

Here is my input on the Grand, I Can't comment on the Voyager as I have never sailed it. I'm also in my mid 20's and sailed the grand march '01 with my fiance and another couple. As with any cruise we had a great time, but were let down by a few things. First of there most likely will be few to no other people your age on the ship, as I could make it the avg age was around 55-65. In addition we were majorly let down by skywalkers disco, and was even going to write a letter to princess about it, anyway the disco is laid out really cool and is awesome inside but, the music that they were playing was from the 70's & 80's and no one was enjoying it, so when I asked the DJ to play something current he refused and gave me a rude remark, as if I was insulting him. Its quite a shame that they can have such a awesome place on the ship and ruin it with a prick of a DJ. Anyway I do want to try RCCL next as I feel it would be more our speed. Otherwise it was great, so enjoy.

It was good enough for us to book our honeymoon on the Golden for a 12 day Mediterranean cruise this July.

Hope this helps, Brandon.
