Your help is needed!!

My fiance and I are thinking about Anguilla for our Honeymoon - we are seriously considering Cap Juluca. However, we just noticed that CJ is closed from Sept01-Nov01 (our honeymoon timeframe). In researching, I noticed that other places and restaurants are closed during that time - does the island, or most places, shut down because of slow season?. Can anyone provide any info or other honeymoon suggestions in the Caribbean (although we'd prefer to stay with anguilla).
We prefer private, quiet, beautiful beaches and good/friendly service. Not too interested in night life.

Thanks!

My guess would be it would have something to with the weather, beings it would be hurricane season. Usually Sept. is usually the time frame. I would look into Aruba due to that factor. If not, try and get hurricane insurance.

Thanks Diann. I did think that was the reason - Hurricane season. I was hoping it wasn't.
We did toss around the idea of Aruba - since neither of us have been there. I heard it's beautiful. Thanks for you help.

I would look into aruba or Curacao(stayed here at the Curacao marriot last year for my honeymoon in June and is a very nice resort, whether you want nightlife or not it has everthing and the island is nice)I believe this is out of the hurricane belt also!

Don't rule Anguilla out - it is a lot different than Aruba. If you like big mainstream hotels with casinos, go to Aruba. But if you like quiet, low key, luxury hotels, fabulous restaurants then Anguilla is the way to go. The restaurants are amazing. The beaches are the best. It's not built up or touristy. Plus, you could get a good rate going during the summer. Why not consider one of the other amazing hotels which will be open? What about the Malliouhana (to die for) or the Fragapani. In my opinion, Aruba and Antigua are not interchangable.

Thanks, jhand. I do not want to rule out Anguilla, however, as I mentioned we are planning our trip for the end of October - Malliouhana is also closed during that time.

We may do the first week on another island and then the last week (which will be the 1st week of November)on Anguilla.

Thanks for your feedback.

Not to discourage you, but only to give you our experience...
We went to Anguilla at the end of October, first of November two or three years ago.
The weather was great, but most of the really good restaurants we had read so much about and were excited to try were closed. (In fact, there were very few open at all.)
Actually, the whole island was kind of "buttoned up." We didn't get to go diving, we couldn't find a snorkel tour, and Bankie's place was deserted.
Now, we like the quieter islands, and we don't need a lot of action or nightlife, but it was veeeerrrry quiet.
That said, the beaches were stunning and the people very friendly.

Thanks Diana. That's exactly what I needed (wanted) to hear. We too like quiet and peaceful...but...we don't want 'dead'. Not being able to enjoy the island fully would just be a bummer. I think I'll have to choose another island.

Any suggestions?

Ali,
You might consider Provo, Turks and Caicos.
Best beaches I've ever seen, and lots of dining options.
We were there this past mid to late October for 2 weeks and had a great time.
Another option you should check into is Playa del Carmen on the Caribbean coast of Mexico. (See locogringo.com )
LOTS to see and do (or not) and another place with awesome beaches. Many cool bars and restaurants there too, and neat little beach towns up and down the coast to explore.
I don't know your ages, but if you are in your 20's or early 30's, I'd probably go with PDC as you can make it as laid back or as active a time as you want.
Provo is pretty quiet, but we enjoyed our time their "beachin' it" immensely.
Congrats!
