Young Island or Saltwhistle Bay (Mayreau, Grenadines)?
I am considering each of these resorts for my honeymoon in April 2003. I would like a great beach, reasonable prices and a tropical setting. We are fairly active (late twenties)- but we could keep ourselves busy with snorkeling and other water sports and don't need much of a night life outside our room while on our honeymoon. I would appreciate any advice from people who have been to these resorts.(Please do not respond Cap Juluca, Cap Juluca...I don't want to spend $5000 plus airfare) thanks.

I have been to both - Young Island is much better value although the beach at Saltwhistle Bay is nicer. I have not been impressed by the Saltwhistle Bay resort. You might also want to consider Petit St. Vincent. <BR><BR>My other thought is that you consider the Canouan Beach Hotel. This place has been operating for years and is a well-kept secret. Its management and clientele are mostly European - the hotel is a nice combination of Europe and the Caribbean. <BR><BR>

Here is the URL for the Canouan Beach Hotel website - the rates start around $250US a day plus taxes and service charge <BR><BR>http://www.grenadines.net/canouan/canouanbeachhotelhomepage.htm<BR><BR>Google search for the hotel using the 'groups' function and you will get trip reports from people who have stayed there and posted to the Google discussion groups.<BR>

Maria, the Young Island 'sailaway' option could give you the best of both worlds. You stay at Young Island part of the time and then spend 3 days on a crewed yacht. That's enough time to sail down to Mayreau and stay overnight on board in lovely Saltwhistle Bay. You could also fit in an overnight at the Tobago Cays for excellent snorkelling.
