will it be nice?

I was ready to book a February vacation to the Westin Rio Mar but heard several friends bash PR as nasty, with the exception of Old San Juan and the rainforest. Is this the type of island where only the resorts are nice? I've never been there and am wondering if another island would be a better spot.

There is always someone to say something about any place. Everyone has different opinions. It is a Caribbean Island although a U.S. Teritory. There is plenty of nightlife, culture and history to PR. I am not sure if your friends would not have that opinion about any Caribbean Island. Where have they ever traveled in the Caribbean and where did they suggest?? I like PR and there is beauty in PR if you are open to finding and exploring the island.

I would help you with that question but I'm too busy. You see, I'm a travel professional and I have been for 25 years. I have been places you can only dream of. I would help, but you probably couldn't afford the places I would recommend. Sorry

Yes, many Caribbean islands suffer from poverty outside of resort properties. I think my friends meant that other islands may be a better value, have more natural beauty, better beaches & snorkeling, and better restaurants. I'm still on the fence about this and would appreciate other opinions (only intelligent people need reply...not like Anon.

Ladyjane, I don't think you get it. beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. The restaurants in PR are very good. There maybe a point raised in the beaches but I have seen beautiful beaches there only sometimes on the rough side if it on the Atlantic side. It all depends on what you are seeking. T&C Islands, have gorgeous beaches, but it is to quiet for me, but some people just love it there. It just all depends on what you want. PR can be pricy in Feb. because it is a major hub for other destinations. It also does not offer AI's and some folks like them and some do not. Again it depends on what you are looking for. I wouldn't rule out PDC in Mexico. Probably a good value for the money. You could also try Dr Punta Cana. Depends on your budget. We like PR, and there are many interesting things to do on the Island. Just my opinion. There are also other Islands close by like Culebra for visiting.
