We'll be in the Virgin Islands (staying on St. Thomas and Virgin Gorda) in June. Where is the best place to pick up some cuban cigars?

Thanks Virginia... I am not sure how to get to Marina Cay, now that we're no longer going on the New Horizons II trip (we cancelled after deciding to stay in the BVI in addition to the USVI).

hi carole, ah the magic of the computer age. in a matter of minutes i was able to discover that you are in luck. there is another pusser's - leverick bay, north sound, virgin gorda!!!
fyi: marina cay is off the east end of beef island, tortola.

Thanks Virginia... I knew there were several, but didn't realize there was one on Leverick Bay!

We will be at Leverick Bay for one of our Virgin Gorda days. Hubby and daughter are leaving out of Leverick to dive the Rhone. My son and I are planning to rent a dinghy from Leverick Bay Watersports that morning and checking out a couple of the small islands around the North Sound.

That will be our day to purchase cuban cigars!

your day at leverick sounds wonderful. have a great trip. on st. t stop by secret harbour near red hook. they have a great restaurant the blue moon cafe. perfect for a snorkel/swim/drink/lunch. snorkel off to the right.

Thanks Virginia. Yes, Secret Harbour is on our list. I looked at the online menu for the Blue Moon Cafe.... looks yummy!

Are there any public showers at Secret Harbour??

no public shower. there is a bathroom because of the bar/restaurant you can use.

cawhite: Carole, you posted a question for me on somebody else's post. Sorry that I didn't see the question until now. You asked why I don't really like the Caribbean as you thought it might help you with your planning.

Well...I live in southern California, and the Caribbean is a longer flight...it is closer for me to fly to either Hawaii or Costa Rica. I don't find that the Caribbean is appealing enough, for me, to entice me to make that longer flight.

When I go to the Caribbean, it is usually because my husband wants to go. He is a biologist and enjoys seeing native flora and fauna around the world.

I have a sensitive digestive system, and always manage to get sick in the Caribbean...yet I manage to remain well in Hawaii and Costa Rica...

I have found, though, that it helps, when I travel to the Caribbean, for me NOT to eat any unpealed, uncooked fruits, vegies, salads...Can't eat anything that isn't cooked or pealed. I am just too sensitive. I'm not sure why this mainly happens in the Caribbean.

I also find that in the Caribbean, I feel like I am choosing between visiting spots that are either underdeveloped, in terms of tourism, or else so overdeveloped that they are ruined for me.

The overdeveloped sites are, naturally, also very expensive! Costa Rica isn't expensive and is more beautiful in my opinion.

Thanks Melissa5 - I was looking for your answer previously and thought maybe you didn't see my question.

I asked you since I am also from CA and love Hawaii (have been going there since the early 70s) and thought we might have a similar perspective.

It is a long jaunt to the Caribbean! We leave this summer on a 10:30(ish) p.m. flight out of San Diego, have a 3 hour layover @ Dulles and don't get to St. Thomas until 1:30 p.m. the following day.

What I am looking forward to seeing is the beautiful blue water and pristine white beaches of the Caribbean... and the walk-in snorkeling. I am hoping DH and DD enjoy the scuba diving too.

Costa Rica is on my list too. I'm just hoping we can get there while it is still inexpensive!
