Safe to pre-pay for transportation in DR or hire taxi at the air port?

We have a trip planned to Puerto Plata, DR and wondering how others handled their airport transfers.

Hotel demands credit card image and ID scanned and faxed to them. They will not handle any information over the phone. I am concerned about sending images of my documents and signatures there and not knowing who will handle it.

Found a taxi service on the web, but they only take paypal. Rafael Silva -

I'm wondering how reliable these guys are.

Please let us know if it's worth just paying cash for a taxi at the airport or should we go with the options I described above. Thank you.

Many hotels require you to fax a credit card image to them before they will book. This is true in Europe as well, so that's not unusual, especially with small, independent hotels.

There's absolutely no reason to pre-pay for a taxi. Just hire one at the airport unless you can make arrangements through your hotel. That's usually the easiest way, but it's really up to you.

Where are you staying?

Hi Doug,

Thank you for your reply. I think we will follow your advice and just hire someone at the airport.

We're staying at the Sun Village Resort and Spa. I've read good things about the resort. Have you stayed there?

Hello

You could ask your hotel to organize the transfer for you. Like this you dont have to care about that.

I would make sure you agree on the price before you get in the cab.

Peace, Greenie
