Questions about Ladera
I booked Ladera for my honeymoon based on glowing reviews from travelling magazines but now I am second guessing due to the noice' the animals in the room and the 'cold' pools. Does anyone have nay insight on these 'problems'? I dont want to end up at a sandals, but want to make sure I am confrotable at my hotel for my honeymoon. Any help anyone can offer will be great!

Well, I've never stayed at Ladera, but I assume they're fair assessments for the most part. It just depends on how much those factors will bother you, personally. Open air does mean bugs & other critters--it's the tropics, after all. I've stayed in places with open air bathrooms and was frequently greeted by lizards & bugs, and on one occasion, a bird.
Because of the placement of some of the private plunge pools, they don't get prolonged sun exposure. Are they frigid cold? No, I'm sure they're not. But they're probably not as warm as the sea water, either. I'd be surprised if the temps weren't at least 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
Ladera is undeniably romantic--I've had dinner there and seen the grounds. But only you can say whether that particular brand of rustic luxury will be good for you. If you're bothered by the thought of sharing living space with bugs, I'd suggest reconsidering. I'm pretty sure that I would love it, but perhaps not for a full vacation.
St. Lucia is a gorgeous location, and being on the hillside between the PItons is stunning, no doubt. But there may be other places on the island more suited to you--perhaps you'd feel more comfortable splitting a stay between Ladera and Jalousie, a more traditional resort, for example.

We visited Ladera 5 years ago during our stay at Jalousie. The setting is fantastic- we went twice for dinner and the manager allowed us to see a couple of the rooms. Although it was nice I couldn't see myself staying in those rooms, we went in the evening and there were flying bugs around the room. Because of it's location I imagine there will be lots of bugs inside the rooms and bathrooms. We choose Jalousie at the time because we wanted A/C and didn't want to have an open walled room. It ended up being a great choice- we really liked the location nestled between the Pitons and the beach as well. There was a gecko hanging around the walls of the bathroom in the Jalousie and bugs outside but at least you could close the doors at night and feel a little better.
Not sure how Jalousie is now since the management changed and it is no longer a Hilton property...

My daughter was married at Ladera last July & it is different from most resorts but we had a great time & unique experience. Although it may not be for everyone.
The rooms all have one wall open to ocean I though it was great. Temperatures were very comfortable in the mid 80’s with no humidity. At night all you need to do was open the window louver for a cool breeze. We had some light rain but it never last more than a few minutes No-one seem to have a problem w/ bugs only one of are party was bitten by a mosquito. There were birds that flew in & out of the room from time to time. Each room also has a small plunge pool & they were cool/cold but okay. The water the main pool was fine & view was spectacular
The staff could not have been more helpful & Orland the executive Chef treated us like family giving us a tour of the kitchen, which was immaculate. The food was great & the meal plan $99 per Nt. (including drinks) was a bargain. They also a great little spa for massages, facials, make-up & hair.
Beaches:
Just short 10 minutes ride are two of nearby beaches. Most water sport kayaks, snorkeling etc. are free of charge.
We spend our days Swimming, Sailing & snorkeling and a Day on the golf course
The Hotel can book multitudes of excursion for you. If your adventurous a must do it the local Friday night fish fry. Your will travel by boat to a small fishing village & sample the local foods which were quite good Dance & enjoy the Night
Nights are quiet its just dinner & drinks at the bar live music or DJ

Below is a link w/more info on the surrounding hotels and Ladera, along w/some info and pictures from where we stayed, just on the other side of the Pitet Piton at Stonefield, which we loved (scroll down in the thread-the link to my pictures is posted in there). We did dinner one night at Ladera which was nice, but if you’re looking for other options as well, this thread might help. I thought the sunsets were much better from Stonefield as opposed to Ladera’s views since the Pitet Piton wasn’t obstructing the view, if you’re into watching sunsets. I agree with going to Friday night Fish Fry in Anse La Raye. Definitely worth it-and do go by water taxi-you can catch one at Jalousie’s beach dock. It’s a much nicer ride than going by taxi. Enjoy!
