Ocean Club vs. Four Seasons Exuma beachfront rooms
Are they REALLY close to the beach? (i.e. Cap Juluca)
Could someone please compare these 2 resort's beachfront rooms? Can you actually walk out directly on to beach?
We are looking for incredibly beautiful water and great beach for pure relaxing and maybe a little snorkling.
Also, how would you describe their pools?

I haven't stayed at the new FS, but the Ocean Club's rooms are not close to the water/beach. That is, from the Crescent wing (best rooms) there is a grass lawn which is easily 100+ feet before you hit the beach, and the beach is down a steep 10-15 foot grade which is not walkable.
So if you want to walk out of your room onto the beach, Ocean Club is not the place to stay. But it is a very nice resort. Outstanding rooms (again, Crescent wing) and better beach than >90% of comparable Caribbean resort beaches.

Ted: You are just a plethora of information and have been so kind to answer many of my posts. Obviously, we like several of the same "beachy" locations.

I'm not at all the paranoid type but I've posted here for many years and have read a number of tales of e-mail abuse directed toward people who have offered their addresses. Not abuse by people involved in an exchange of information, but by 'bystanders', either for fun or for malicious reasons. Once an address is posted here, it's archived forever.
I'm pleased to offer my (biased) opinions about most anything.
Having read some of your previous posts, kk, I think we frequent the same types of places. You've been a couple places I'd still like to visit. If I can offer any other info of use to you, don't hesitate to ask.

I know exactly what you mean and I agree. I have become email friends with another poster, sharing over the years, but that was back in the good 'ole days.
We are presently looking at The Beach House in Barbuda, maybe going in late Sept. We are somewhat concerned about the stormy season, but we have this "window of opportunity", so what the hey!
Right now I'm working on the air to get us to Antigua/Barbuda all in one day from DFW.
Have you ever been to Antigua or Barbuda?

I was in Antigua in May. Interesting that you mentioned Barbuda. I tried to plan a 1-2 day side trip there (the beaches there sound like they're worth the effort required to get to Barbuda), but couldn't find lodging which I thought would enhance the trip.
Antigua's beaches are good but not among the best in the Caribbean IMO. Barbuda sounds like it has some beaches which may be even better, and certainly not touristy.
The old K Club on Barbuda has struggled, and the decor and (from what I read) ambience weren't/aren't really my style. I'm not even sure it's still in existence. Someone recently told me they thought it changed hands.
If you do go to Barbuda, please update us all.
As for the 'good ole days' at Fodor's, frankly I miss them. It was a livelier, funnier (but sometimes unruly) board prior to registration requirements. It was easier to carry on sideline conversations, too.
Let us know what you decide about your trip. When I can't travel, I can still get a vicarious glimpse through others.

Know what you mean about living vicariously through other's travels. Personally, I could travel ALL THE TIME if I could. (we still have a teenager living at home, if you know what I mean)
I'm certain you have answered this question many times, but what island (IYO) have the prettiest beaches/water? And, have you ever stayed in a room directly on the beach?
Favorite Caribbean would have to be Parrot Cay and Cap Juluca, but all time best was Bora Bora. Talk about baby powder sand, gorgeous water, and those overwater bungalows!!! The snorkling was unbelievable! Heavenly!

I have stayed at both of these resorts & have future trips planned to both as well. Although you can hear the waves @ OC, there is definately lawns between rooms & beach. 4 Seasons has beach front rooms that you walk right out on to beach. It is by far the more relaxing property-smaller & not much there. Fewer dining choices. Oc has all the excitement & craziness of Atlantis 10 minute walk down the beach.
As of 2/04, service was much better @ OC. We're back @ 4S over the holidays & hope service has improved. Hope this helps. Meg
