More Caneel Bay Questions??

I am sorry but this is a big splurge for me and a surprise for wife as well.

Another question please; We have been offered Turtle beach for our stay, cannot afford Scott's. What do you think of this beach for accommodations??

Did you book directly with Caneel or go through a travel agency? If you didn't go through a travel agency, you might want to check out the deals through Virtuoso or Gold/Platinum American Express if you have the card. They have had some great promotions in the past (including breakfast and room upgrades). Depending on the time of year you go, you might get upgraded anyway.
My personal feeling is that it really doesn't matter where your room is. The property is very easy to manage (either walking or through the shuttle) and the beaches are everywhere!

Scott's Beach has all one-story cottages on a long west-facing beach. Spill out of the room to patio to sand. That's the positive. Minuses are not having so much privacy, and rooms have poor ventilation. The lower price category on Turtle Beach and Hawksnest Beach have either lower or upper units. Upper is more private and you only have to roll downstairs to be on the sand. Turtle rooms face north on a fairly short beach. We liked Hawksnest the best; the beach is reasonably long, the upper rooms have both a rear screened porch overlooking the gardens, and a front balcony on the sand. Hawksnest faces east to the tradewinds, and the ceiling fan will suffice for cooling, so you can live open air 24/7. If you gave us Scott & Hawksnest at the same price, we'd take Hawksnest. Rooms are all the same quality level.

we just got back from caneel after stealing away for five days and it was wonderful....there isnt in my opinion a "bad accomodation" anywhere on this property, i agree that it really doesnt matter where your room is located, the shuttle worked perfectly and was pretty fun to hop around. we were on hawksnest and it was perfect, upper level, winds blowing from the sea and opposite, nice and calm. the rooms looked, from what i could see, fabulous anywhere we went. turtle beach accomodations were perfect, we returned to this beach, we loved the snorkling, the intimacy of it and the privacy the seagrape trees give you, tucked away with wildlife scurrying all over the place.

i brought down some left over fruit and danish in zip lock bags, parking happily on turtle beach, and the mongoose snatched the one with the muffins and had a ball breaking it open, flipping all over the place....lizards, hermit crabs, birds all for your entertainment (nature geek that i am)....steps from gorgeous clear blue water...with turtles, stingrays and beautiful coral and fish.

take advantage of the packed lunch and just park at any beach and the rest is up to you...we grabbed the drink attendant, who was alot of fun and he took care of us with delicious ice cold pina colada's....very nice!!

scott was beautiful...they all were, and the service, tranquility and ability to do it all or nothing was perfection in paradise. it takes about a day to figure out what suits you best, feeling a little like finding your "own" paradise!!!

we will definately return.

I hear different thing on drink service on the beach, not big drinkeras but hay ...on vacation..I know what you mean by taking a day to get the lay of the land and figure out your comfort level...I hope I find mine asap//Is there floaties allowed on Turtle?

we ate off property for three nights and the last night we had a private dinner in the equator ruins, just gorgeous with torch's, open air, candle-lit, flowers...our own little romantic nook...the history just screams at you as you dine in one of the most gorgeous places i have ever been...book in advance..we loved it and wayne was fabulous.

we had grilled lobster at the lime inn, italian food in a gorgeous, air-conditioned room at paradiso's and a fabulous dinner on the balcony at zozo's.....great place!!

didnt have a bad meal anywhere...five days was wonderful for a quick last minute escape, two weeks would be perfect!!

if we had more time we would have ordered lunch and taken it down with us in the hard cooler they provide...i would bring a soft one to take along also. if you are on turtle beach, your room is steps away...having the soft cooler will enable you to enjoy drinks right on the beach as i saw many people doing. our fridge and mini bar were re-stocked daily and was included in our package...nice red wine, champagne for my birthday, beers, soda, juices.....snacks. one day i ordered fruit and cheese late in the afternoon and it was wonderful to sit on the calm side of our room and just listen to the birds, drinking wine and relaxing...pure heaven.

one day we ate lunch at the buffet on caneel beach which was fresh and delicious...very busy area...and then headed out to other places to explore. we ordered lunch on any beach and it was great...the beach attendant was fun and although he does not come that often, we tipped him nicely and he took care of us.

wonderful place...we loved it...you will too. yes, we saw floaties, low surf-side chairs and lounges scattered about.

another tip is that they stock you up with sunscreen, toiletries, bug spray and raid....slippers and robes...no need to pack this stuff....it is getting difficult to travel with extra bags, charging for overweight bags to the excess of one hundred bucks....all those goodies we brought home

caneel and cruz bay were unlike anyplace we have ever been...having the choice of beaches and choice of restaurants so close by was amazing....the staff at caneel were top notch.....friendly, happy to be there as well as have you as a guest....miss it already!!

Thank you for two excellent and informative posts..Truly appreciate it.

With the restaurants, did you make reservations or just show up?

Again, thanks so much, I feel your enthusiasm.
