I am going to St. Lucia for my honeymoon this spring and I am trying to decide on a resort. How was the beach at Le Sport? Also, did you check out any of the other resorts- and what did you think of them?

Hello GM!
We had a great time at Le Sport, although I have to admit, first impressions were not great...let me explain. Once we met our rep. at Hewanorra, we were told that there was a 'computer problem' and there were duplicate bookings. So we (and about 6 other couples) were asked to spend the first night at the Rendezvous...what a disappointment!
However, once I got on the phone to Andrew at Lesport, I made it very clear to him that we were not staying at the Rendezvous, but rather at LeSport. Happily, they found a room because of a no-show.
Once there, everything was up to our expectations. The spa service was relaxing and the staff there were professional in their treatments. The activity coordinators (Bodyguards) were fun. The only minor negative is the service at Cariblue was a bit spotty. Tao on the other hand, was very very good.
Mosquitos were evident during the evening (thank goodness we brought repellent). My wife unfortunately was bitten several times on the leg during our first dinner there. After that, we 'wised up' and used the repellent!
Thanks for your views in the earlier posts.
Sara,
The beach at leSport is 'smallish' but quite adequate for the size of the resort. The resort itself is away from the main population areas and there are no peddlers on the beach. The sand is not white powder, but still quite soft. (I think it can be best described as a brown / black sand). The swimming area is quite clearly marked and the water clarity is very good. We did walk by the Sandals Grand St.Lucian which is on a causeway connecting Pigeon Island with St. Lucia. That beach is much bigger with a view of Rodney Bay. Kinda pretty, but doesn't give you the sense of seclusion that LeSport's beach and views do.
If you are looking for pampering (ie. twice a day spa treatments, and good food), and fitness activites (ie. schedule of sports incl water sports, golf, tennis, archery etc), or just simply relaxing by the pool, it's hard to beat LeSport.

See my comments above for more details.
Hope that helps. If you need anymore info, be glad to share.

Cheers.
Hi cc! Thank you for posting your review. Rendezvous's rates are significantly lower than LeSport's...did LeSport offer you some kind of compensation for moving you 1 night? (I know that you were able moved back to LeSport that same day, but I'm just wondering what they offered).

Mariarosa,
Yes, LeSport did offer compensation to us for the 'lost day' at Rendezvous. Basically, one nights fee and a promise of future free accomodations at LeSport. While the offer may be tempting, we decided to push for staying at LeSport because: a) we already paid for LeSport and had high expectations; b) we would be losing a day of spa services; c) we really wouldn't feel 'settled in' until day 2.
We actually ended up at the Rendezvous before we made the phone call. I can tell you that Rendezvous' grounds were not as nice as LeSport's. Rendezvous is situated in Castries right beside their airport (small planes).
I think it was a bit unprofessional of LeSport to double book so many people and then have to offer apologies and compensation once people reached St. Lucia. However, once we were at the resort, we had a great time.
Hope that helps.
Well, 'cc,' welcome back, but I'm sure you have great memories of LeSport.

ACK! RENDEZVOUS?! I wouldn't stay there again if they paid for everything...we went there, and stayed for 1 night, which was MORE than enough, then transfered out to LeSport. I learned (and read on other bb's) alot of folks from the U.K. love it there, but there's NO comparison in my book. I'm SO GLAD you pushed it with LeSport Mgmt for your stay at LeSport - you were ABSOLUTELY right.

Definitely bringing 'Off' for our upcoming trip; thanks for the reminder.

Sorry to learn about dinner at Cariblue, usually they are right on top of things. One night, we had a 'fun' dessert there called Brown Spotted Dick - flaming bananas in a sweet rum sauce with creme fresh. Everyone at our table ordered that but my hubby...

SO GLAD you had a great time, despite the small aggrevations.

GM
Have to say that you cannot really compare the Rendezvous with le Sport. They are different standards and prices altogether. I have to agree with you though that it was very unprofessional of Le Sport. People who book their hotel are looking for that standard of holiday. Looking at the British Airways brochure I have in front of me, Le Sport costs £40 more a day per person. On that basis, Le Sport should be giving that money back plus major compensation.

well GM, I hope you have a fantastic time there. When we were there, it was quite evident that LeSport enjoys a high return rate. The staff were calling guests by name and welcoming them back as if the guests were long lost family!
Would we go back? Yes, I believe we would. There are few resorts that have the mix of fitness, spa, nice grounds, better than average service, superior food, that LeSport does.
cheers.
