I need help
I am going to be in Antigua from April 1-7 and will be with my daughters, 16 and 14. I am looking for a resort which will allow my daughters to stay in the same room with us but in seperate bedrooms. I am having a difficult time with that. Also, I want to be on the beach but a calm swimming beach and both AI or EP plans are fine with me. I looked at the Plantation house in Cocobay but then read that the food was terrible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I would like to get my hotel booked as soon as possible.

Take a look at Long Bay Hotel on the northeast coast. The View House or the Harbour House would work well for you--these are free standing cottages that have a main bedroom that can be shut off from the rest of the space. The Harbour House is more of an open plan space with a kitchen, shared bathroom, and a living area with two twin size daybeds. The View House has a king bedroom with a sitting area, two bathrooms, a kitchen, and a large living room with two twin size daybeds.
Rates at Long Bay include breakfast, 4 course dinner, water sports, taxes, and staff gratuities. It's set on a peninsula, so there's the calm Caribbean beach on one side and a large bay perfect for windsurfing on the other. Snorkeling is pretty good off shore--among the best Antigua has to offer for snorkeling from the beach. There are two small beach bars not affiliated with the hotel for lunches, and you're about a mile away from the village of Willikies, which has a variety of rum shops and snackettes. Thank you for the information. I am looking at the website right now and it looks beautiful. The picture of the dog pretty much clinches it for me. Is the water rough or choppy on the northeast side of Antigua. Even though my daughters are older, I still worry about them in the water. Also, of all of the cottages, which all look amazing, which one is closest to the sand? I love being as close to the water as possible. Thanks for the suggestions because so far it looks just like what I am looking for.

Except for one visit last November during a tropical depression, the water has always been calm on the Caribbean side of Long Bay during multiple visits at different times of the year. The bay also has calm water near the hotel, but it's about 3/4 of a mile long, and at the outer edge it empties into the open sea where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean. The water there is quite rough, but there's no reason in the world any sane person would try to swim there. It's Devil's Bridge, which you may run across during your research on Antigua.
Long Bay Hotel is a lovely place that excels in all of the important areas: service, food, location, and comfortable beds. It is my favorite place to stay on Antigua, but lest you get get the wrong impression, let me stress that it is a very casual atmosphere and much of it is quaint. I like quaint, but some folks find it outdated. It feels like stepping back in time at LOng Bay.
The dog's name is Hooch and he has been a fixture at Long Bay since my first visit. There's also a calico cat named Schizo who wanders about, usually at mealtimes.
No rooms or cottages are on the beach--most of them are clustered around the bay side of the property. Harbour House is immediately on the bay, with views of the water from the kitchen and the living area, but not the bedroom.
View House is up on a hill and provides a view of both the bay and the sea. It has a large wooden deck with an umbrella table with 4 chairs and two beach chairs. Bathrooms in all cottages as well as the rooms are small and spartan. No matter where you stay, you're not more than about a 4 minute walk from the beach.
The breezes are a little better in the Harbour House than the View House. There's no a/c, but there are ceiling fans in all sleeping areas. Windows are both screened and louvered, so you can take advantage of the breezes.
For sharing a space with 2 daughters, I would give the edge to the View House for space and privacy reasons--there are two bathrooms and there are walls & doors separating the different rooms, rather than the open plan of the Harbour House.
Long Bay is a wonderful little gem--it's not for everybody, but I loved it so much after my first visit that I got married there and have been back a few times since then.
