Honeymoon Ideas

I am looking for honeymoon ideas in the Caribbean. I have some ideas but we are looking for something a little off of the beaten path. We would like places with great beaches, good scuba diving and fishing, and ideas for a two to three day sailboat trip.

A few possibilities:

BVI or St. John: great beaches, okay diving and fishing, great opportunity for 2-3 day sailboat trips;

Turks and Caicos: great beaches, great diving, not sure on the fishing or sailing opportunities,;

Belize: okay beaches, great diving and fishing, probably limited sailing opportunities;

The Cayman Islands: great beaches, great diving and fishing, again, not sure on the sailing opportunities.

If you gave us a budget, we may be able able to be a bit more specific.

you might look at www.moorings.com they do sailing charters out of the bvi's or st. lucia.

another great snorkel/diving place is st. vincent & grenadines - the island just south of st. lucia, so a combination of these islands might be an option for you.

as well as your budget (excluding airfare), some addtional info will help fodorites advise you:
- how important is dining
- how important is nightlife
- shopping
- activity level (prefer days of beach sitting or want to zip-line or ride atv's, etc)
- do you want a big resort or small
- want lots of interaction with other people or prefer alone time
- all-inclusive sounds ok or awful to you
- how long can you travel for

bvi, usvi, t&c and caymans all have good snorkel/dive but are not as "off the beaten path" as say belize or maybe tobago.

It sound like you may want to do what we did 13 years ago for our honeymoon. We started in Grenada and had a sailboat with a captain and cook for 4 nights, then returned to Grenada for 3 more nights at a great little resort. We have since been on several bareboat trips with friends and us sailing and with captains. The BVI's are also wonderful. There is great snorkeling on both trips, good scuba and we had troll lines of the boat and caught numerous fish that we would eat that evening. Moorings offers what you want or you could probably find a yacht charter to do what you want. It was fantastic. I can't wait for our kids to get old enough to take them on sailing trips or leave them long enough to go again.

Let me preface this by saying I like the Caribbean. It's a great vacation, close to home with great beaches and many options.

With that said, for someone whose criteria includes 2-3 weeks vacation and whose budget is not a factor, there are much better options, imho. Tahiti would be my first choice as a honeymoon locale based on your criteria. Bora Bora would give you the opulance and Rangiroa would give you the rustic feel you're looking for with diving that is pretty much unparalleled.

If you want to stay in the Caribbean, look into Little Dix and Caneel Bay - both are upscale Rosewood Resorts that allow you to split time between them and will ferry you back and forth. You can then also spend a few days sailing around the Virgin Islands.
