Help planning a vaca !
We love Harbor Island but we keep going back - so we are looking for something similar but of course different. We love renting the golf carts and the beautiful beachs. We don't like St. Martin, St. Thomas, Curacao. Does St Lucia sound like the right choice for us ?? How about the Turks ? Barbados ? Also looking for a simple direct flight from EWR.

St. Lucia - Not if you want to ride around in golf carts. St. Lucia is much to big for that. St. Lucia lacks the long white sand beaches you found on Harbor Island.
You might like Barbados as it has a good combination of nice beaches, interesting topography but you won't be riding around in golf carts - like most islands it's too big for that. By the way, Harbor Island is unique when it comes to golf carts so you are probably going to have to make a concession on that point if you visit a different island.
Which island in the Turks (& Caicos) are you thinking of visiting? Grand Turk probably comes closest in "feel" to harbor Island but it is nowhere near as charming. Provodenciales has the most resorts and it the island 98% of the tourist visit when they go to the turks & Caicos. It's much more populated than Harbor Island so transportation is by car, not golf carts.
You really didn't say what you liked about Harbor island (other than it has nice beaches and golf carts) or what made you dislike St. Martin, St. Thomas and Curacao so it's difficult to steer you in the right direction. You also said you want "something similar but of course different". That's a very conflicting statement and difficult to interpret. Perhaps if you could elaborate more about your likes and dislikes we could be of more help.

Thanks RoamsAround ! What I loved about Harbor Is is the fact that everything is so close, classy well traveled visitors, the long soft beaches....I could go on. I know it's very expensive and difficult to get there so that's why we were looking for something similar - but that's probably why it's so lovely.

I'd take a look at Virgin Gorda. We love it there. It's very small, but it's beautiful and everyone is pretty friendly. Little Dix is great if you are looking to stay at a hotel, or there are lots of private villas to rent, most on the beachfront.

Treasure Cay is Abacos, bahamas is quite similar to Harbour Island.. Gorgeous white sand beach (comparative to harbour island's pink sand beach if not better). Drive around in golf carts. Golf course. The restaurants are limited though (HIs are better). You take a flight from fort lauderdale to get there. Another suggestion would be Elbow cay also in the Abacos. Very similar to HI ... golf carts, very quaint town, several beaches to explore along with a very pretty lighthouse. You take a flight to Marsh Harbour from Fort lauderdale and a short ferry over to Elbow. I think both the flights are from fort lauderdale but may be west palm beach (I always get confused between the two..). We stayed at a wonderful house on Treasure Cay on a private beach...let me know if you are interested and I can email you the link.
