Gay Jamaica - is there one?
While I know it's not the most gay friendly place in the world, my boyfriend and I are going to Jamaica in June, and will be staying in the Runaway Bay area.

Is there any place is Jamaica that is gay friendly? I can't seem to find clubs, bars, or anything that suggests there is much of a gay community in Jamaica.

Thanks!
Brian

Brian~

Jamaica along with many places in the Caribbean are not gay friendly. I'd say Jamaica is probably the most unfriendly of the bunch. Puerto Rico has some gay friendly spots along with some hotels such as the Cormorant Beach Club on St. Croix. Jamaica is a wonderful place so by all means go there but please for you and your boyfriends safety go with a low profile.

Me and a freind are going to Jamaica in December or January. I am gay and he is straight, he's a person who is very rude and can even be a pain in the but, and i have to stay with him in the hotel and i do not know anyone to be with in Jamaica.
Please tell me where to go to find a Gay Jamaica, because i am pruoda of myself.
I never left the United State's before and do not know what flying is like, and where to go to find some life for myself. He has the charm for ladies, and i do not have the charm to find anyone in the gay net-work.
Please tell me where it is in Jamaica and how do i be safe with myself and in finding thing's abroda.
Thank You Very Much

Jamaica is homophobic in public, but not necessarily so in private. You'll not find much in Runaway Bay or quite frankly, anywhere very public in Jamaica that's gaycentric. Everything is private in Jamaica, be it gay or straight. Gay women are non-threatening and generally pass below radar. Gay men not so lucky. But,nobody much care if you a batty bwoy/man as long as you're not predatory or flagrant about it. After all ,you're a tourist there for a very short time. In Jamaica, 'the bush have eyes', so ALL Jamaicans keep secrets tightly even from their immediate spouses/lovers/friends and family. You're headed to island at the start of June, rainy season, and in Runaway Bay at that. Would advise you switch and pick someplace far less tourist, a private villa, the South Coast, Treasure Beach, Port Antonio -- whatever proclivity you are.

I think gay and lesbian folks will find Saba quite gay-friendly. For an island population of only 1500, there is a thriving "out" local community here. No beaches, but incredible lush scenery, hiking and diving. Very, very quiet and quaint but the local population lacks homophobia. The island minister of tourism is openly gay.

know i might be majorly late .. but Jamaica actually have a lot of gay friendly places both in the capital Kingston and on the western side of the island... we have grown as a country dramatically and is accepting the gay community. The only major obstacle is if you try to force your sexuality on someone and or assume they are gay and as such make bold and daring strides at them. i really hope you made the trip here and had a blast of a time. Hope I am able to hear if anyone have had the chance to enjoy our island. If anyone interested in advice on where is best to go when in Jamaica, dont be afraid to ask me for help.
