ferry to Martinique?
I've seen this is a "popular" side trip from St. Lucia, but is it really worth it? Will we see / do something worthwhile, or am I just paying $150+ to visit St. Lucia 2?
Any positive or negative stories appreciated.
Thanks,
NWG

Have you been to St. Lucia before? Because here is my thought: there is enough to see in St. Lucia without taking a day to see another island. If you have been to St. Lucia and have seen all there is to see, then it might be worthwhile but I don't think you can really do Martinique justice in a day. And it certainly is not St. Lucia 2!!

I agree with jecrow - so much to see and do in St. Lucia that, unless you are staying more than a week or want to have a full day every day site-seeing (as opposed to a few chill, I would not recommend it. If you get to see and do everything and still have time and want to do a side-island trip, and can afford it, I'd do the Grenadines trip over the day trip to Martinique.

Ok, thanks. Yes, only one week, and it is already pretty full, but if someone said, "they have the most amazing _____ that you have ever seen," then perhaps I would make the extra effort. I'll just stick with Saint Lucia then and relax. Thanks again. NWG

On our 2nd trip to St. Lucia we did the sail over to Martinique. At our hotel we couldn't book the Grenadines trip which is what we really wanted to do. The sail over to Martinique was extremely choppy and there were lots of ill passengers on the boat, including myself. Tip - if its choppy sit in the middle of the boat. Lots of walking on the tour of Martinique - side walks and streets are very narrow and have lots of pot holes and lots of traffic. I personally did not care for what we saw of Martinique. They claim you have time to shop at the "fancy shops." I believe we had 1/2 hour and from what I could see the "fancy shops" sell the same stuff at home.
You also need to change your money into Euros if you want to purchase anything and of course the locals speak french. On our 1st trip to St. Lucia we stayed for 1 week and hired a private taxi to take us on the must sees of the island. I would recommend something like that and perhaps on your 2nd trip over doing Martinique. If you can book the Grenadines though I would book that. That trip sounds heavenly.
Have fun and good luck.
