Bermuda in December

My husband and I would like to take advantage of Bermuda's cooler off-season and lower rates by traveling in December. We are looking for a romantic and quiet hotel or inn and are not planning to do much exploring (perhaps one or two day trips - that would be it). I've heard very nice things about the Pompano Beach Club, the Reefs, and Horizons. Are these good choices for a quiet holiday?

Yes, they are good choices. I go every year the week before Christmas. I am often the only guest at my hotel, which doesn't bother me at all. Don't assume that since there are few tourists reservations for dinner will be a breeze. Bermudians love Christmas parties and many many restaurants get very booked up during the season. Also, Bermuda has a wonderful Christmas boat parade and on the night it is held (weather may be a factor) it is next to impossible to book a waterfront restaurant. This is a wonderful time to visit. I find that the weather has been warm enough to sit on the beach or ride a moped, but it is usually too chilly for me to get in the ocean. Enjoy your holiday.

pS In December there is a golf tournament (I think it is called the Goodwill Golf Tournament) which can fill both the Reefs and Horizons. www.bermudatourism.com has a wealth of information

Thanks for the December info. about Bermuda.

I have a question: What sorts of events / parties take place on New Year's Eve? My wife and I will be at the Fairmont Southampton and I wonder if we should stay there or get into St. Georges or another location for festivities?

Thanks!

Sorry, I have been away and just saw the postings. go to www.bermudatourism.com and check on events, there will be a comprehensive listing. I also suggest calling the hotel and asking the concierge what may be planned for the holiday.

Laby: the Reefs is a wonderful small hotel with excellent food. I have stayed there a few times and we really loved it. I have not stayed at Pompano, but it gets rave reviews from some fodorites here.

What else is there to do in Bermuda at this time of year?
I plan to be there for roughly 2 weeks for a family event.I'll probably be there for Christmas and New Year's.
