Beaches - good or bad?

I'm curious-I've read a lot of negative reports on Beaches Turks&Caicos (so many in fact I cancelled our reservations there). But I just read an article in Budget travel and it sounded like their vacation was great. But it was in Jamaica. Are all the Beaches "iffy" or is it the one in T&C that consistently has problems?

Can't speak for the Jamaica property but can attest to the T&C one- definately a case of misleading advertising. Try logging on to the Rants and Raves-Hotels section of this website for reviews of the Beaches in Jamaica. I have always found the reviews posted by Fodorites to be quite honest and on the mark.

Asking if Beaches is good or bad is like opening a can of worms. Some people like it and some don't, depends what your looking for. You can read all you want on these forums, but you have to go with your gut. I like to read the travel boards on many websites and you will read all sorts of pros and cons on Beaches, but mainly I read good things. I think if you have a group of people all going to the same resort, you will always have some who loved it and some who have complaints. I have read some posts where people said they almost cancelled their trip to Beaches from all the negative posts and in the end went with their gut and were glad they did and had an awesome time! So do what you think is right for you.

I would have to agree with jpr. We were at Beaches T&C in September of last year. Had a great time. However met people that complained about everything. Complained that a pool was closed. There are 5 others. Complained that a restaurant was not open. Hello, there are 9 others. Beaches T&C did have problems when it first opened. Service was slow, staff was rude and food was iffy. However over the last 2 to 3 years has improved greatly. Please feel free to email me directly.

Actually, I read enough negative stuff about T&C Beaches that I switched my reservations to Ocean Club. We leave in just over a week. I felt like it was too much money to take a chance. And it did seem there were consistent complaints. Anyway, I was curious if other Beaches were better. I liked the idea of an AI, but in the end, I decided to go with more of a sure thing.
