The biggest problem with readers polls: the beaches which are visited by the largest number of people are more likely to get votes.

If readers have never been to the better, secluded beaches on some of the less accessible islands, those beaches don't get any votes.

That's the ONLY reason Jamaica gets any votes. It's visited by lots of beginning travellers and people on low budgets.

You have a point Eric, less accessible or more expensive beaches are less visited (by definition...if everyone visited them they wouldn't be the nice deserted beaches they are).

No need to trash Jamaica though, I've visted several islands and like Negril's beach the best, for all the reasons I mentioned in the "Best Beach" thread where you also posted this message.

Some people LIKE activity, music, nightlife, culture with their beach!

While I do like Negril's beach, I'm glad none of my favourite beaches were mentioned.

Eric hits the nail on the head about readers polls. Although three of my past favorites are listed I don't go to those anymore because they have become increasingly popular and busy. Trunk Bay another that years ago was great, is overused, abused and the sacrificial beach on St. John given over to the masses. Let them vote, let them go there. At least the other really wonderful beaches will remain pristine and far more deserving of the top of the list!

Hold on Eric, Jamaica may get more visitors than many places - however people are generally not stupid, they now an awesome beach as compared to an average beach. Negril is without a doubt a breathtaking beach, even if you are well traveled or not.

If what you say is completely true, then why wasn't all the other popular destinations voted for, such as
Nassau, Freeport, Cancun, Cozumel, Puerto Rico, St Thomas and Aruba?
