I am a 20 year old male who plans on going to Puerto Rico by myself for 7 days. My mom thinks that what I am doing is absolutely crazy and dangerous. What do you guys think?

NO, you are not crazy and NO, going to PR is not dangerous. Singles (both men & women) travel to PR all the time!!!

Your mother is being overprotective and unrealistic in her fears. Use common sense during your trip and you'll be fine.

what roams said. just use normal precautions. don't wander around by yourself at night, etc. have a great time and come back to let us know how your trip was. where are you staying?

I'm no expert on Puerto Rico. But I travel to Mexico often solo. I always have a great experience. Mom's just naturally worry is all! You need to keep your wits about you traveling, especially when you're alone. But I don't think it is "crazy" at all. Have things planned out so you know where you're going, what areas are best, have your paperwork and money in good order. You'll be fine.

I would agree - just use some common sense - and don't drink too much (in other words, keep your wits about you, like suze said).

Hey Alex...

You would have great fun! When I first traveled to Puerto Rico I was 22 and went alone. I had a great time! I met hip & educated young locals that I had fun with and I also met solo travelers from Europe with whom I also had a great time in Puerto Rico.

Definitely not dangerous unless you're hanging out in the wrong neighborhood in San Juan.

I am in Puerto Rico right now. It depends on what your plans are. There is a lot of crime and you do need to be carefull, but it's that way in all the islands. If you plan to stay on a resort you have no worries.
