Nova Scotia in November
We are thinking of taking a last minute trip to Nova Scotia while we are in Maine visiting friends in early November, (depending on the weather forecast) Are there any ferries at that time? from Portland only? or Bar Harbor only? Is it worth while to go then, I mean are restaurants and inns open? We could stay as long as 6 or 7 days. I've read some great info on the Nova Scotia site, so thanks for that.

Hard to say with November weather in NS. Certainly not the best time to visit - potential of wet weather/snow although not much different than Maine. You will find accommodations/restaurants open but in some remote areas, resorts close during these months as well as most museums, etc. Although I wouldn't want to discourage you from visiting NS, between June and October are certainly the best months.

Please see www.catferry.com regarding service from Portland and Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia. Apparently their last sailing is Oct. 12th. It is operated by www.bayferries.com.
Too bad, but as Tanya says weather is unpredictable and some inns close middle of October. You could check the air service into Halifax and take short day trips from there.

I don't agree that November is the worst month.....I would save that honour for March, but it is certainly starting to get colder, rainier and windier. Last year we did get our first snowfall in mid-November. If you did come, I would make my base Halifax where the restuarants, musuems, shops and attractions do stay open year round, and then do day trips, weather permitting. Already in Lunenburg, the Valley and certainly Cape Breton lots of things are already closed.

LOL Sailorgirl! The thing about March is that the days are "getting longer" by then. But, in November it's dark, cold @ & miserable. And, the other thing that I hate about November is that the winter lies ahead but by March, Spring is on the horizon!
