Baltimore, MD to Niagra Falls, CA - need advice on where else to go...

We plan on driving the end of June/beginning of July from Baltimore to Niagra Falls, Ontario. We are a family of 4 (kids age 13 and 10) and we would like suggestions on where to stop on the way up to Niagra. We plan on going to Toronto afterwards. After that we are stuck....we want to spend 2 weeks in total and Tobemore, Ontario and Finger Lakes, NY have been recommended. I was hoping to get feedback from others that have taken this trip on places to stop and where our next stop after Toronto should be. We really enjoy the outdoors and hiking. Thanks for any suggestions.

I have visited the area you plan to go to many time and live just outside of Toronto. I can suggest Lake George/ Adirondacks Park/Lake Placid for hiking. The Finger Lakes has pretty drives around the area, wineries, Outlet Shopping near Seneca Falls. We spent a week cycling there, staying near Seneca Falls .http://www.fingerlakes.com/activities/hiking.
After Toronto, drive east though the 1000 islands area Or Maybe come back through Vermont and hike Jay Peak??http://www.jaypeakresort.com/summer/summer-tram-rides/

Thanks for your ideas - we will research them. Any thoughts on Tobermorey area? How about Kingston? Are either worth a visit?

Kingston is a very historic city, and just east is the start of the 1000 Islands Parkway. There is a paved trail you can ride or bike along the St Lawrence River for 37 kilometeres

Really great way to be outdoors and enjoy the area. I have never gone to Tobermorey so cant comment. Just a quick note that July 1st is the big Canadian summer holiday here, so you could expect more traffic on every road.

I would suggest Lake George as well. You could also tie in Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. The drive along Hwy 87 through NY state is lovely. Tobermory is nice but a very small town with not much to do if its an extended stay. There is a nice boat cruise that you can take though. A very nice one in Lake George as well. If you go through NY state, you can easily visit Kingston/1000 islands.
