Air Tahiti Nui

I posted this message on the airline board, but didn't receive any responses. Thought I would try here:

Has anyone flown this carrier lately (within last 6 mos or so) in Business Class? Are seats comfortable?

Compare to Air New Zealand? Compare to Air France all on same routes, LAX to PPT?

I'm going to top this post because I am curious too!

I do know that some posters on both theknot and tahiti-explorer have flown on business class so you might want to check it out there too.

Flew business 2 years ago and it was great. The flight was 8 hours so it was worth the splurge for the upgrade. The food was excellent too. Im jealous!

We just returned from a trip to FP, on Air France. Chatted w/some folks on the shuttle bus and they mentioned that New Zealand is the best they've traveled so far.

On our way there, Air France's 747 had personal screens w/selections of games aswell. You could play w/your remote. We were definitely pleasantly surprised.

If Air New Zealand tops that, then you're in for a treat!

Hi -- I flew biz class on ATN about two months ago for our honeymoon and it was very nice. The seats go back pretty far and each seat has a personal TV with video games. I didn't think the food was that great, but they were wonderful about coming around with punch, champagne and water constantly. I've flown Air France biz class (not to Tahiti) and thought it was pretty comparable.

I thought Air Tahiti Nui was excellent. Most freidnly staff in the sky as far as I'm concerned. I flew Business Class and felt it was worth the splurge as well.

Has anyone flown economy class? Is it just like other coach service flights (UAL, AA, Continental)? I fly coach internationally all the time (on a budget...) and take a tylenol pm and knock myself out most of the way so usually I'm fine. Plus I've only ever flown 1st class once on a short flight so am not expecting much. I am getting the impression ATN economy is smaller than regular coach seating on other airlines from the way people talk about it. Is that true?

We flew coach on our Feb flight to Tahiti for our honeymoon. Overall, ATN was the best overseas trip I've taken in coach (but I only have NWA and KLM to compare to). The leg room was as cramped as any other airline I've been on in coach (I've flown almost every US air carrier on domestic flights). You are fine until the person in front of you reclines and then your knees are squashed if you are tall. (I'm 6'.)
Instead of paying $600 pp to upgrade to first, we spent less than half that for an OWB in Moorea and we definitely did the right thing. The flight in coach wasn't bad and the OWB was awesome!

The seats seem to recline relatively far, so if you don't recline and the person in front of you plops all the way down, you'll feel like they are in your lap.

The planes are all new (Airbus, 2-3 years old) and very nice. The seats are comfortable and each seat has it's own video screen. There were at least 6 movies showing and they continued throughout the flight. I watched 3 on my afternoon flight to Tahiti. I thought the food was not bad for airline food. The service was very good and I will fly ATN again.

I realize that this is an old message, but I have some new information.

Yesterday, I went on their new Airbus 340-300 out of JFK for 4-hours with 100 other travel people to have lunch at 30,000 feet. Their new non-stop flights from JFK start on July 4th, so they were doing a large promotion in the area. Though we flew in coach, we were able to visit Business and First Class to check out the accomodations. Business Class has 24 large, comfortable seats in a 2/2/2 configuration. They have adjustable head and foot rests, and recline substantially. They say that "Business Class Seat recline varies by aircraft and row/location 127-150 degrees". Lots of leg room.

I will fly ATN from LAX to PPT in October - Business Class. Wondering if you could give a bit more information about the variation on recline regarding row and location? Since this is an overnight flight, I'd like to request the max recline.

Thanks

I was on Air Tahiti in November - wish I had went business class !! It'a a very long flight and the back is very cramped and uncomfortable - it looked so much better in business - won't do it again. Go Business Class !!

TC - Unfortunately I don't have that exact information. Your best bet would be to call the airline directly for the specifics on the plane that flies from LAX to PPT.
