WhereTo Meet In Hong Kong Airport??????

Hi all
I have a strange question. My wife is flying into the Hong Kong airport at 7:05 am on a Saturday in March, and I am flying into Hong Kong at 1:40 the same day from Beijing. She wants to wait until I get in and go to the hotel together. Is there some place in the HK airport that both of us can find and meet at an appointed time. Neither of us have been to that airport, nor will we have phone contact when we get there.
Anyplace would be fine to meet -- even a Starbucks (if there is only one there) Any suggestions would be appreciated. As always - thanks.

IMO if you are arriving over 6 hours apart I would meet at the hotel. If your wife really want to wait that long it will have to be after she collect her luggage and custom otherwise the luggage will be deem us unclaimed.

Could she buy a day pass at one of the airline lounges (Continental, United, etc) and have you meet her there? At least she can take a shower, watch tv or have comfy chairs and snacks. Even without phone, the door people can go in and find her for you.

You cannot get to the departure lounges at HKG unless one's departing or connecting, so that's out. Plaza Premium has a paid arrival lounge with shower, but it's not cheap:

Otherwise, there are many many eateries at HKG, on both departure and arrival levels where you can meet; even more in T2, though I doubt you want to haul your luggage over:

There's also a Regal Hotel attached to HKG T1, though with the numerous choices in the terminal, I doubt you'll need to go to the Regal.

BTW, I also think it's better for your wife to just get to the hotel first.

I think when your wife arrives bleary-eyed and possibly jet lagged at 7 am, she will loathe the thought of waiting 6 hours or so in the airport. However, IF she really wants to do this, there is a Starbucks in the arrival hall. After she has gone through Immigration, and than has collected her bags, she will exit out through two sets of glass doors into a huge arrival hall. Keeping her back to the doors she has exited, the Starbucks is to the left, at the far end of the arrival hall near the windows. It’s hard to miss.

I don’t suggest that she wait in any gate area before Immigration, because her luggage will be out circling on the carousel for hours, and most likely will be pulled off, and then you both will have to go to an office to collect it. Does not sound like fun to me. I think it would be just as boring waiting in the arrival area as it would be in the gate areas. There are a few restaurants and a small number of shops in the arrival hall as well as ATMs. If she walks over to Terminal 2, there are more shops, including an outlet shop of Shanghai Tang and a hair dresser/spa place. (All arriving flights come into Terminal 1.)

There are also showers in the arrival hall which may be a good use of her time, see http://www.plaza-asia.com/index.php/locations/hongkong for the location. She wants the one in the Arrival Hall, as the others are in the gate areas before Immigraiton and baggage claim.

I think she would be better off going to the hotel, assuming they will give her a room that early. It is very easy to get around town on one’s own. If you can tell us where you are staying, we can provide directions and transport options.

Thanks a lot guys - I really appreciate it. I agree that it would be better for her if she went on to the hotel --- but its her call.
Cicerone - our hotel is Harbour Plaza Metropolis - 7 Metropolis drive - Kowloon. Thanks again

She can take the cheap A21 Cityflyer bus all the way to the last stop at the Hung Hom MTR station, which is adjacent to the Metropolis. It is single-ride, cheap, comfortable AND gives her a nice interesting introduction to some sights in Hong Kong if she sits on the upper deck.

It takes about an hour - fairly slow, but she has time to waste anyways.

Glad you finally found the Shanghai Tang outlets Cicerone. By the way there are TWO outlet shops in Terminal 2.

See this old post for their whereabout and shop description: http://www.fodors.com/community/asia...g-bargains.cfm

Shrink - even wife your wife's early arrival time she will be able to ask the hotel to keep her luggage while she can take a walk around the Metropolis mall(doesn't open until 10 for shops) or have breakfast at one of the restaurant there. Or if she's lucky they can give her a room right away. Hate seeing people wheeling trolley full of luggage into bathrooms at the airport when they have to go!
