Where spend 10 days in Dec/Jan?
My wife and I are attending a wedding in Hong Kong. Plan to book an air/hotel package that includes 5 nights in HKG, leaving us 10 more days Dec 27-Jan5 to spend somewhere else in Asia. Any suggestions on the best places to visit that time of the year?
We're in our 30's, no kids, have traveled a lot in Europe and Africa but only been to Asia once (HKG), not afraid of culture shock and love to eat. Sensible spenders but not on a tight budget. Thinking about Thailand but not sure if we should spend all 10 days there or just do Bangkok and then another country. Open to all suggestions. Thanks much!

thailand is the place---cheap and lots of fun....may have some trouble with hotels until after 1/1 as this is a busy hotel time....
easy flight from HK...
you might like bangkok, and a beach area: ko samui, phuket or even hua hin just south of bkk...
bangkopk is simply fabulous and its much cheaper than HK in every way....look at the bangkok marriot resort and spa or the peninsula hotel for lux at a cheap price---marriott has best pool area in bkk....

I agree with Bob, Thailand is likely your best bet, and a Bangkok and beach combination is great. However, you'd better book soon, as this is the busiest time of the year in Thailand, and as James has said, this is is very busy year for Thailand.

Thailand is a good deal, but I would add a few days in Siem Reap, Cambodia to see the temples at Angkor Wat. You're so close it would be ashamed to miss these.
With 10-days you can do 2-nts REP, 3-nts BKK, 4-ntsBeach Resort and depending when return flight departs, you might need an overnight in BKK (if an early am flight home).

if you decide that you want to go to siem reap, which i also think would round out your asian stay...i would suggest that you do this directly from HK, or at least at the beginning of your side-trips, as this would eliminate bkk on that busy holiday weekend....lots of choices in SR to stay at all levels
