Don't expect these to be resumed any time soon ... or ever. (They announced that they'd be dropping L.A. in July.)
Thai has been bleeding money for several years, and they have been doing some serious downsizing -- selling off planes and making huge cuts in staff.

Indeed...announced awhile back. Can't say we didn't see that one coming. There's far too much competition in the LA to Bangkok 1-stop marketplace -- and Thai's prices have been too high as of late. No one wants to pay to bail them out of the hole their in.
It's a sad state of affairs at that airline--I do remember the good times fondly on that nonstop LAX-BKK. They really used to be at the top of the heap and lately in terms of service, food and all that other jazz, they've been a disaster.
I hope they can dig themselves out of the mess they're in.

Large portion of their passengers are price-conscious leisure travellers. Thai cannot compete with ME3 for European markets since those offer many more 1-stop choices. To N. America, hard to make any money with the distance. Add to that their own bureaucracy and for too long a mentality of "Let's do whatever SQ is doing". Finally, the emergence of low-cost areas like Air Asia for the regional markets.
Put those all together, I cannot see any way they can do well.

I just happened to accidentally come across the info of the suspension as I was curiously looking for flights for my best friend who plans to join me in Bangkok in the winter. Since I booked my one-way Thai Air flight to Penang well before the July announcement mentioned above, I didn't need to check Thai Air for anything until the other day.
I'm on Singapore Air from L.A. to Singapore and on to Bangkok for this coming winter and booked that flight in February 2015, a couple of weeks after having returned from my 2014/2015 S.E. Asia trip. I've stuck with Singapore AIr for quite a while now and am in their frequent flyer program.
I do remember some Thai friends commenting, here in L.A., that Thai Air's airfares had shot up really high. I think they take Eva Air to Bangkok.
