Terryr's daughter's report on the Majestic Grande Hotel in BKK and the bedsupperclub
Our older daughter, in her 20's and living and teaching in Thailand this year, just stayed at the Majestic Grande Hotel in Bangkok with her girlfriend who visited and emailed us the following report (I reminded her how Fodorites like details, details!). Thanks, Bob, for the recommendation! Here's your feedback.
This hotel is just off Sukhumvit Road and about a 5-minute walk from the Skytrain. She writes, "I loved the Majestic Grande and highly recommend it. It was a luxurious place with super friendly staff. Our room was clean, nicely decorated, although maybe a bit small compared to the Marriott (where we all stayed as a family in Dec when we visited her). Their buffet breakfast was really delicious with a good selection. We used the gym, pool, and steam room, and found everything all very up to par. It's definitely a "cozy" boutique hotel and much smaller in scale than the Marriott, but worth the money. It's in a terrific location near all the nightlife and many restaurants. We paid $75 per night." She booked through www.huahin.20m.com.
About the bedsupperclub, she writes, "It was super fun and a very cool atmosphere. The food was good. We had chilled tomato gazpacho, cold salmon and pomelo salad, roasted venison with shitake mushrooms, and mango and sticky rice for dessert. They had live music plus a DJ, a fortune teller, a person who gave massages, and a short fashion show."

I'm glad your daughter liked the Majestic. I took a tour of the place, and posted photos on my website a while back, at Bob's request. It's a nice boutique hotel, and in a great location. If the rooms were a bit bigger, I'd probably stay there myself. I've been staying in serviced apartments for a few years. I like the space, the fridge, and a more homey atmosphere.

This is terrific to hear, as we plan on staying at the Majestic Grande in November. I have had reservations about it because it is not "on the river" as so many people recommend. For our budget, it seems to be just right.

Carol, I just saw your posting. Would you mind sending your website again to us so we can see photos of this hotel? Yes, if I was spending a longer period in Bangkok, I too would consider a serviced apt based on your feedback to us...I loved reading your thread when you were posting a few months back. Thanks for checking in!
