Not much of an expert here, but I will say that is 700 miles one way from Mumbai to Jaipur. That's just getting to and from one place in Rajasthan.

If you are thinking of driving from Mumbai, then 8 days are not enough to cover a couple of good destinations in Rajasthan, Even if you cover 350 kms a day. Its not going to be a bit comfortable at all. You need to add a week more to get this tour done. I can suggest the following routing:

Mumbai- Surat- Ahmedabad-Mount Abu- Jodhpur- Jaipur- Udaipur-Vadodra-Nashik- Mumbai

Jaipur to Udaipur is around 420 Kms but because of the good highway and less traffic, you can cover it in 7-8 hrs. People are doing it nowadays.

However I will still suggest you to fly to Udaipur/Jaipur and then from there you can can start your road journey of Rajasthan. You can hire a car with driver or you can opt for self driving (hiring a car only).

I suggest you should consider Abad-Udaipur-Mt Abu-Jodhpur. Also 2 nights may not be needed for Jaisalmer. If you start early from Jodhpur, you can reach Jaisalmer well before noon (250 km). Spend the rest of the day checking out the fort, Patvo ki Haveli etc. Evening you can book yourself into any desert camp and enjoy rajasthani folk music and food with a bon-fire and spend the night in a tent. after that proceed for Bikaner.

Some places are here:
bombay 550 ahmednagar
ahmednagar 231 mt.abu
mt.abu 169 udaipur
udaipur 255 jodhpur
jodhpur 267 jaisalmer
jaisalmer 333 bikaner
bikaner 188 mandawa
mandawa 183 jaipur
jaipur 148 pushkar
pushkar 206 chittaurgarh
chittaurgarh 427 vadodara
vadodara 421 bombay

This is the route I'd suggest

Now you can go easily and enjoy your trip.
