Gorgeous photos! Thank you for sharing.
I love reading the trip reports but it's really the photos that make me excited to visit places. I can't wait until December when I get to visit Beijing and Xi'an and your pictures just made me even more excited for my trip! I want to blow off work and just go NOW!

Your pictures are great and I am now wishing the summer away in anticipation for our own departure date. I noticed on your link that you hired a driver to take you to Datong. Was this from Pingyao? How much did it cost? We are looking at different ways to get from Datong to Taiyuan and I am wondering what we could roughly expect to pay for a driver. Also how did you find a driver (referred, through the hotel, etc)?
Thanks again for the great photos!

I'm sorry that I haven't replied to questions. I've been hanging out in the Europe forum looking for advice on Ireland and Scotland.
h2otstr: the weather was comfortable. Sometimes a bit chilly even. We we able to layer clothes. We have friends that went in July and they suffered with the heat. The only real rain we encountered was near Guilin.
Ladouca: Including a very expensive golf diversion and souvenirs, and not including airfare or visa, it was about $7,000 for 2.
