Inexpensive Hotel on the river in BKK

Looking at the Navalai...but is there a better value? Just started my research so I have no idea at this time. But I would love to be on the river and walking distance to some restaurants/bars, etc.
A family friend suggested Federal Hotel, which is very inexpensive, but does not look close to the river.

A friend stayed at Navalai in April and loved it - we had stayed at Arun Residence but it was unavailable to her - think the rates are similar though

I don't know when your dates are, but the Royal Orchid Sheraton (ROS) is offering some deeply discounted rates. There is a thread about it, probably still here on page one, if you take a look.

Center Point Silom is a great location, near the Saphan Taksin BTS stop and the Sathorn express boat pier. This provides easy access to both the riverside sights and downtown shopping venues.

There's a new Ibis hotel opening on the river in November. You didn't say when you were traveling. The Ibis is right across the river from the boat pier and BTS station.

We loved the Center Point Silom - location and price were great, the breakfasts were fantastic and the rooms very nice.

Hi all. Well, I'm embarrassed to say I will not be going until Nov 2011. That's why I didn't mention my dates. As I said, I'm just starting my research.
Anyway, I have looked at Center Point, but it's not exactly 'on' the river...at least it doesn't look like it in the pictures...but in any case, I would prefer a smaller, boutique hotel experience.
I will look at Boss and Centrium....thanks!
