Loved reading about your trip and impressions. My daughter who lives/works in Shekou, China also stayed at the Giggling Tree when exploring Yangshou. That scenery is amazing. I still remember our time there and on the Li River from 2007.

I just saw your blog now, while researching for a future trip to China. Great info, thanks for sharing. What I'm envisioning now is a very similar itinerary + Zhangjiajie, and all this in 3 weeks. We'll see when throwing in real China logistics if this is realistic...
