Do a search on this forum for Peninsula and you will get all the advice/comments you care to read. My vote- penn. - but do read all the feedback and then decide.

imo it is not even a choice...its the peninsula all the way....the two are not even in the same league....the penn is much more upscale and quiet in many ways...perfect for the honeymoon

I don't think I've read any significant negative criticism about the Pen. I always stay at the ROS because it's Free with miles, but even I would choose the Pen if cost was not an issue.

I wouldn't consider the Royal Orchid's regular rooms for a honeymoon. But I wold consider a suite in the Towers. You can get a Towers suite (top floor) which includes full breakfast, drinks and canapes and free laundry service (six pieces per person per day) in the room rate for the price of a regular room at the Pen. The Pen is more luxe overall, but I prefer all the extra amenities in the Towers as well as enjoying having a suite.

I've stayed at both hotels in the past.

If you chose to stay at the Royal Orchid Sheraton, then you will find it a lovely hotel, with warm and friendly service, and I'm sure you will have a fantastic stay.

BUT, don't whilst your staying at the Sheraton be tempted to hop on board one of the free ferries to go and have a look, drink, meal whatever at the Peninsula to see "what might have been" , because if you do, I think you will regret that you picked the Sheraton and not the Peninsula.

Does that make sense? Hope so.

Definitely get a balcony suite at the Pen. It has the best and most romantic view in Bangkok

Erany,
Don't mean to complicate things here, but I just got back from a stay at the Shangri La (right next to a sky train station & water taxi dock) and it was fantastic.
The service, ammenities and quality of food were all top notch. Also, very handy to have the station/dock so close by.
Beautiful River Views from the Club floor, 23rd or 24th floor I think.

Best of Luck,
Craig

If you go to the Penn- I would not get the balcony room- it restricts your view of the river from inside becasue the walls jut out to form the balcony and do you really want to be out on that balcony in the hot humid weather- I think not.
