"Travel Card"? Perhaps translated to be "Beijing Public Transportation IC Card" would be more reasonable.

Forgive my ignorance, but what do you use this card for? Public transportation?

lol, shanghainese......Have you noticed a lot of first time posters from Beijing lately?

I wonder if the new guides and translators that they are training for the 2008 Olympics are getting in a little practice at our expense?

Aloha!

Yep, ht, not hard to spot, they must be in the same training group, hope we can learn something from them too. Btw, I'm heading to the BI this week, hope to meet up with a fellow Fodorite living in Pahoa.

Happy New Year of the Pig and Aloha!

ooooo Shanghainese some of my favorite fishing spots are on the Pahoa coastline.

Are you staying on the Hilo or Kona side?

Check out the volcano at night....still can't stop staring at it for hours after all these years of erupting. Don't take any rocks home(bad luck)!

Eat lots of loco moco's and have a blast. Let us know if you stopover in hnl, maybe we can have a quick gtg at one of Melissa's favorites.

Aloha!

5 in Hilo with 3 at the Bay House B&B (booked for the next 2), 2 at Hilo Hawaiin, then 3 at Outrigger Keauhou Beach. We won't take rocks from the volcano, will enjoy short hikes but not up to hiking over the lava at night. Have scheduled a Waipio Valley wagon tour, I've ridden horses on beaches, not sure about going down steep, wet slopes.

Yes, loco moco, muzubi, mixed plates, cocunut shrimp, ono, opa ... oh boy, Cafe Pesto, Hilo Bay Cafe, Seaside and Ken's, got all the ideas from Fodor's.

Aloha Airlines winter 1/2 price special into Hilo and out from Kona, inbound 1.5 hours in Hnl, not enough for gtg this time. Let me know when you come to visit, Mel has my e-mail address, she is having jia on Sunday.

shanghai,

I like Cafe Pesto.....a real local fav which you won't see on trip advisor is Kaikodo Restaurant in Hilo. The people in Hilo will get upset at me letting this one out but.......

It's my favorite place for lunch or dinner in Hilo these days. Give it a try. See link below:

http://www.restaurantkaikodo.com/

Also a real good restaurant find is my wife's cousin's place. It's called the "Coconut Grille". It's the restaurant attached to the Hilo Seaside Hotel right there on Banyan Drive pretty close to the Hilo Hawaiian. A little more of the home style Hawaiian atmosphere at this place as you'll see if you go. Breakfasts are super there and the fish selections at dinner is makes this place one of the best kept secrets on the island.

Don't forget the summit of Mauna Kea and the saddle road areas are beautiful this time of year. Have fun!!

Aloha!

You can counter the massive eating by going to the farmer's markets and getting some strawberry papaya--the papayas with red flesh inside. Yummy!

Sorry for hijacking, travelren!

Let me know if there is a GTG!!!

Worldisround! ht: Mel has sent me pix of your 06' Hnl gtg.

Mel: GTG where?! We're not stopping over at Hnl so I guess you all have to come see us, or we meet in China. Our farmer's market trip is planned for Sat, never had strawberry guava, sounds great, also looking for those little apple bananas. My new colleague's mom Carol is a pottery artist at the market.

Apple bananas are the BEST!

Aloha!
