Ideas for things to do in and around Chongqing

My husband and I are probably flying into Chongqing late next week and, since that is the week of the big holiday, would appreciate some thoughts about what to do in and around there for a few days till we can set off to explore more of the region.

It is our first time in China and we;ll be there a month or more and plan on spending most of the time around Sichuan, Xian and Beijing (where we fly out of). We've heard that travel around Golde Week is a challenge so we're figuring it's best to stay put in one area till it is over.

Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

We hired a car and driver from Chongqing and went to Dazu to admire the cave carvings. The drive was scenic and the carvings magnificent. Highly recommend. Do try a Chongqing hot pot. Gives new meaning to HOT!

if this is your first time to China, there are lots of places to go, except Chongqing, Chengdu is a must go place where the symbol(Panda) of China live. Tibet is also a good place to explore.

We're only flying into Chongqing because we are in Bangkok and there's a cheap AirAsia flight from here...not on the list of places to visit.'

I'd appreciate knowing about a private driver if anyone has contact info for one. My husband is recovering from malaria he caught in India so we need to take it a bit easy to start with.

Thank you
