Hotel Transfers versus taxi or other transportation
With our upcoming SE Asia trip, I am wondering about the best way for transit to and from the airport in the following locations and does anybody have an approximation for what to expect for that cost:
1) Bangkok - airport to Royal Orchid Sheraton
2) Hanoi - aiport to Sofitel Metropole
3) Hoi An - transit to Danang airport
4) Ho Chi MInh City - transit to Park Hyatt Saigon

bkk....the limo which is suggested for initial arrival if you are not familiar with bkk is about 1200 B one way....AOT or AAC limos...not a limo but a benz or camry sedan...i always take this because of the suitcase issue and we travel lite...
taxi would be about 300 B plus tolls of 60 or 70B... toyota corolla so limited for trunk space...
timing: 30-60 minutes....

I always take the airport bus in BKK which gets me to the area I usually stay in. I have no idea where your hotel is.
In Hanoi I took an ordinary taxi and paid over the odds but still not a lot in western terms.
Didn't go to Hoi An but found airport minibus in Hue was fine, again dropping off at various points in the town centre where there were plenty of places to stay to check out and choose from.
For HCMC I did avail myself of the taxi my (cheap and cheerful, ie. under $20) hotel offered to send. It was $10 USD and worth it after a seven hour flight. An ordinary taxi which I took on my return two weeks later cost $6.
How much the hotels you have selected will charge you for their service is anyone's guess.
Cheers.

Taxis are really fine unless you have too much luggage. In Bangkok, I use AAC Limo, about 1000 Baht because we travel with two suitcases each, and that's too much for the little taxis. We used a taxi in Hanoi (carrying one suitcase and a carry-on each) and it was fine.
Hotel transfers cost from 10x the taxi price to dramatically more, depending on the hotel. I'm of the opinion that they are not worth it.

Thanks for the helpful information. Is the AAC Limo something that has to be booked ahead or do you just get it at the airport? Our first stop after our trip from the US is Bangkok so I would like to make that transfer as easy as possible with our sleep deprivation.

AAC you must book ahead. One trip I was so busy before we left, I forgot to make our reservations. I emailed them from the Red Carpet Club in Narita and got a reply back within minutes. They were there to meet us.
