Hong Kong Salisbury Suite or Sheraton Tower room?
We will be in Hong Kong in September. Trying to decide between the Sheraton and the Salisbury. Sheraton Tower Deluxe Harbor view rooms with breakfast are $350 per nite, $325 for a "non Deluxe" tower room.
A harbor view suite at the Salisbury is $290.
We just can' decide.
Any opinions out there?
Or is there a better choice. $350 is the max we'll spend. The view is important to us.
This is our second trip, but we have no recollection of where we stayed last time...about 15 yrs ago.

530sq feet of prime real estate in Hong Kong. Even if it is just 4 bare wall, it will still need to cost $250. Otherwise, YMCA would be better off tearing down the building and redevelop it as luxury condos.

If the view is important to you (and I am all about the view myself that’s why I live on the Peak), I think you might want to check with the Sheraton to find out the view difference between the deluxe and non-deluxe. I have a vague recollection of checking on this a few months ago and learning that the non-deluxe rooms actually have the better view, but they are not as luxurious as the deluxe rooms. The other thing to bear in mind is that the old Renaissance hotel and New World shopping centre which is across the street form the Sheraton is being torn down. You views will not be obscured by that, but it could be kind of unsightly, as they are partially through the demolition. IMO with the Sheraton, you really want to try to get a harbour view room on the west end of the building, as those will have the most open views. I doubt that the Sheraton will guarantee you a certain end of the building, but it is worth discussing with them. (The west end is the one closer to Nathan Road. I think the deluxe rooms are on the east end.)
There is no doubt to me that the Salisbury will not be as luxurious. However, the suites are likely to be on a high floor and of course will have great views. They are also larger than the deluxe rooms at the Sheraton, although with a suite that room size is split into 2 rooms.
Did you look at prices at the Intercontinental? Another one to try would be the new Hyatt Regency, particularly their harbour view king rooms.
Also consider hotels on the Hong Kong Island side, which offer views which while not the postcard view from Kowloon, can nonetheless be quite good. (You also have the added advantage of already being on Hong Kong Island for restaurants and sights.) That price range may be a bit tough for view hotels on the Hong Kong Island side. But one to try would be the Bishop Lei, where you could get a harbour view suite for US$200 or less; this hotel has a great location in mid-levels near the escalator, see http://www.bishopleihtl.com.hk (this is about the same level of hotel as the YMCA, rooms, even the suites, can be small. It has a small but nice outdoor pool with views. The Salisbury has an indoor pool only.). Also try the Hotel LKF. It has a great location in the heart of the bar/restaurant district and Hollywood Road area, and is about 5 minute walk from the main area of Central, about 10 minutes to the Star Ferry. It is quite funky and modern. Views are good, not great, but interesting city and some harbour because it is such a tall tower. Rooms are a good size generally, the smallest are 500 square feet. http://www.hotel-lkf.com.hk/.
On the Panorama Hotel, be sure to check room size. Some of the rooms are quite small, 220 square feet or less. It has nice views.
